Hi all,
I'm having a bit of trouble with my new galaxy tab 10.1 and I was wondering if anyone here could help.

In short, the device cannot access the internet when connected to 3G (including HSDPA, etc.)... what I find strange however, is that any device connected to it using its wifi hotspot can.

In a bit more detail...
  • The device is definitely connected to the network (at the moment 3/4 strength 3G).
  • No apps that requires an internet connection can access the internet. When you attempt to use the browser you receive this error "Authentication via the proxy server was unsuccessful".
  • So as a matter of interest, I turned on the wifi hotspot and connected my laptop... and the net works fine.
  • I've confirmed that it also works on my cellphone when I connect that to the wifi.

I am on a Vodacom 2 Gig bundle and have confirmed that all of the APN settings are correct. Since I am accessing the internet through the connection, I suspect that the fault is on the device, rather than with the network.

Does anyone have an idea of what's going on?

I had the same issue (albeit I haven't connected to wifi yet) - I solved mine:
Try going to Apps -> Accounts and Sync -> check that Background data is enabled.

I had a similar issue on my TF101G.

Under the APN settings just make sure that where it says proxy, port, username, password, server and authentication type that it has nothing typed in the fileds. If they are empty it should read: <Not set>.

Thanks guys. Turned out that the APN that I was using had an IP address for the proxy... not sure why since it's what I got from vodacom.
All working now.
