Hey guys

I need some opinions on a gaming pc that I would like to buy.
The price he's offering is R11 000.
I'm specifically looking for good performance so that I can play (D3, DOTA, GW2, TERA) on full settings.

Here are the specs that were given to me:
-core i5 2670k
-gigabyte sniper series motherboard
-all solid state components,
-crossfire ready
-Wlan
-Bluetooth
-16gb kingston hyperbeast series ram, with heatsinks
-2tb Seagate hybrid solid state harddrive
-powerforce 1000w powersupply
-3gb radeon R9 280x graphics card
-asus blu-ray writer

Please let me know what you guys think and if it's worthwhile.

This is kinda a hard one. What case will come with that?
Also are you 100% sure that's an i5 and not an i7.

A retail with that class GPU would probably cost R10 000, but that's sacrificing a few components and going 8 Gig ram, a normal harddrive, 550w power supply etc.

My G3258 and GTX550ti can already do DOTA2 at max, so no worries about the performance.
It wouldn't be a bad buy at least, depending on the case and if it's in fact an i7.
He's not willing to go down another 1k?

Gonna take some effort to build a similar performing pc at that price, but it would be possible, might just take a lot of effort.
Convenience has it's own price.

For R11K my only concern is that PSU. But knowing what chassis it is would help.

5 year old psu and cpu, with a psu that's kinda overkill for a single card. (edit: Ok psu might be 3yrs)
At least that's the age I'm guessing of the psu.

The make looks decent and it's been running all this time, but it doesn't look like something you'd buy in South Africa.

My first instincts say that's too expensive. have you priced the components individually (if you even can)? Also, for the games you mentioned the specs seem overkill.

For 11K you can build your own very powerful setup new. Latest graphic cards are so potent and price worthy in value for money that buying an old system would be a total waste and loss.

/in before Ponder posts link to his build thread :p

I tried to find it to post it - I couldn't

Ponder's build is pretty good in terms of price/performance, doesn't really waste anything on "premiums".
ex. Blu Ray drive, OC motherboard, Hybrid SSD, k version CPU, 16Gig instead of 8gig ram.

The main draw of going new is the warrantees.

12k would be the sweet spot for a new pc.

The thing is this looks like a premium build for it's day meaning it has stuff in it that not everyone will actually use and which are pushing up the price a bit.

Lets save Ponder the trouble, but this was before the price increases:

MB - R637 - MSI Intel H81M-P33 H81
CPU - R2889 - Intel Core I5 4690 Processor 3.50Ghz
RAM - R976 - 2x Corsair Value Select A - 4GB DDR3 DRAM Desktop Memory - 1600Mhz
GPU - R2999 - Galax 96NPH8DVD9XX GeForce GTX 960 EXOC 2048MB GDDR5 128-bit
HDD - R758 - WD Blue 1TB 3.5 inch SATAIII
PSU - R599 - Super Flower SF-450P14XE(HX)
TOTAL: R8957

You'd be nuts to buy that for R11k. Comparative secondhand rigs go for much less than that. Just loiter around Carbonite for a while and a killer deal will present.

No, just no.. I built my buddy a brand new up to date rig for a little under 1.5k more than that 11k.. Didn't have 1000w psu and 16gb ram but an i7, 240gb intel 5 series ssd, gigabyte 2gb oc 750ti windforce 2, 600w semi modular corsair psu, corsair carbide spec 01 chassis, Asus z97 k, 8gb corsair xms 3 heatsink ram.. Ask yourself, do you really need enthusiast grade, 2nd hand hardware or do you just need something that will get the job done..

The price the OP quoted seems a wee bit expensive. If he's looking at old second hand kit he might as well look at getting a new tray cpu & oem ssd off carbonite. Look at what Fanie ended up getting in that same thread of mine sourcing some things via Carbonite.

I woulk not pay R11k for what he's being offered.

Oh btw who still uses optical drives in this day & age? :p

Pirates?

I forgot people still buy these pirated discs. Times are changing though, even the old grannies have learn't the convenience of flash sticks you give to friends and then simply plug it into your tv when you get it back, they love it :D

Guess there's still value in having the ability to write blu ray discs especially with game sizes exploding and our internet situation here in South Africa.

R15 for 25Gig, can be send via post when SAPO not on strike.

Does have it's legit purposes, for example I could really use a Steam backup copy of Batman Arkham Origins.
Bought it on Steam ages ago, but it would use too much cap.

Sending a blu ray disc would be cheaper than a memory stick.
Blu Ray writers seem to be going for R1000 now new.

That PC is worth about R8k at most.
