Re-read the thread and my posts.

Brawler actually came to me to chat about this stuff a while ago. ;) Of course, he tends to actually read... Far easier to deal with.

Yup but he won't act like a box and recommend ear hurting headphones to someone. My actually question is whether the difference is so great and amazing that 2.3k is worth it for GAMING, no need for you to answer that though.

He will either say yes or no and i can then get myself a great product or i will get a 46" lcd for bf 3 :D.

Uhh... no, not quite:
Dolby PLII takes stereo sound and expands it to 5.1 (7.1 with DPL-IIx) not the other way around.

Personally, probably not simply because that's a big pile of cash and I'm not enough of an audiophile to be able to appreciate the difference.
Quality is kind of a geometric curve: a R500 set is far, far superior to a R99.99 set. A R1500 set is better than the R500 one, and a R2.3k uber-sennheisser is subtly superior to the R1500 one but, to me, not enough to warrant the extra grand. If I was a real connoisseur, I would probably think it's worth it.

He's referring to the Sennheiser Xense bundle I think, including Sennheiser PC-350's and an equivalent Asus Xonar Essenct STX sound card.

There is absolutely no question about whether it will be a huge improvement, for gaming alone. Anyone who says no hasn't heard anything of Xense calibre.

Killa, you are "upgrading" from onboard for Pete's sake. I think?
 
Nope i got a xonar dg, the cheap POS one.

For gaming i use the cyber snipa headset which has built in audio.
 
Whew... got back from the dentist... and found this thread on fire... anyways to clear up a couple of stuff, the headset I got was a no - name Chinese one, No fault of postmans. I'd rather not like, a R100 headset than find that I don't fancy a headset I busted R 1k on.
Anyways I've been searching Google for some stuff and found quite a number of decent reviews on the senneheiser HD 555. I am not an audiophile, but I do enjoy quality, and this would be my first quality headset purchase. Bear in mind if I buy a set of headphones(HD 555)rather than a headset(with mic) I will use it with my zune too...

Guys if I want to use Team Speak 3 for Battlefield 3 then is there really a need for me to invest in an expensive headset? All that will be coming through the headset would be voices right? I would be basically still be using my normal 5.1 speakers for the game sounds anyway so I dont see the point of getting an expensive headset.

Would appreciate the feedback...thanks.

No...

But it would be arguable whether investing in a Sennheiser/Shure microphone would be necessary. :D

Once you use something like decent gaming headphones/HD555/PC-350/etc., you will most probably not go back to loudspeakers...

Yup but when people tell you they don't have money for an expensive headset then guide them and show them which 200 rand POS you are talking about.

The loud speakers are awesome, i prefer gaming with my speakers than with a headset. The only issue with TS and load speakers is chatting in TS can be an issue for your mates who will hear everything and it can be annoying but as long as you have push to talk working you can manage it and they will tell you it's bad.
 
For me it's either:

1. Roccat Kave
2. CM Storm Sirus
3. ANC Vulcan

So far it looks like it's going to be the CM Storm Sirus, then the Kave due to the fact that I'm worried about comfort.

BTW: my current headset is a set of ancient Sennheisser HD497's (if I don't need a mic) and PC-151's if I do. I firmly believe you get what you pay for and that quality is a virtue in itself.

so the HD 555 are good? however I can't seem to finds any info on the surround sound? will it be true or virtual?
 
HD555 are amazing. Virtual surround (if your sound card supports it) because they are standard stereo headphones.
