Gaming Laptop

Ok, I was looking at this one http://www.evetech.co.za/n/22/msi-gaming-series-gx60-1ac-amd-a10-quad-core-gamaing-laptop.aspx

The reason behind this is firstly the card is a 7970, and secondly for that price, I think it's value for money.

Although my budget is between 12k-19k I still want to buy value for money and that is one of the reasons why I am staying away from Alienware at the moment

If you're ok with that slow ass processor then by all means go for it, but you will feel the speed hit after a while.

If you do go for it, buy the same thing from Laptop direct and save yourself some cash: http://www.laptopdirect.co.za/laptop_specifications.php?laptop=66612

Actually I am getting a little concerned with the CPU. How does this CPU fare against all top modern games today?
Cause I don't want the fastest CPU that will own every game for the next 100 years, but I want a CPU to last as long as the GPU in terms of performance over time.

CPU will be fine for everything.

The nice thing about all AMD is when you not gaming it'll switch off the 7970 and use the onboard GFX so your battery will last.

CPU longevity is just as important as the GPU I find.

Check out the Notebookcheck mobile CPU list for comparisons.

The Intel Core i7-3630QM ranks 23rd and it's performance is pretty damn good (check out reviews of similar laptops for a games indication). By contrast the A10 4655M ranks 204th.

For less than the Evetech laptop you linked, you can get this. I'm willing to bet that in a year or two it will fare much better than the AMD A10 + 7970M.

I disagree with the bolded bit, but our definitions of fine may be very different.

I have an older i5-2540M in one of my machines and while it's still peppy, I'm often left wanting. And even that previous generation dual core i5 kicks the A10 4655M in the teeth.

I will agree that the power saving on the AMD is nice if you're very concerned about battery life.

It's a laptop.

If he intends on doing video editing or mining for bitcoins, I'm sure he'll get a proper PC.

Hi all,

I would like some help here with gaming laptops. What would be the best laptop to buy and as a second option what laptop would be value for money.

Budget : 12-19k
Main focus : I care about the graphics for gaming the most, I don't really care about the CPU etc...

Normally I'd say get the MSI GX60 because the CPU bottleneck shouldn't be that bad, but since your budget is around R19k...

AKill 170 17.3" HD @ R16,999

The AKill 170 is one of the most flexible laptops I've seen in a while. Aside from the storage upgrade possibilities, it also has a feature that'll ensure it keeps a good second-hand value: a MXM slot. That means you can do graphics upgrades in the future if you can find the right chip in stock and the BIOS detects it. The backlit keyboard is also lifted from the Alienware lappies and has similar customisation options.

I'd rather remove any chance of a bottleneck considering it's roughly the same cost for both machines. Plus more power is never a bad thing (unless you want tons of battery life out of the laptop, in which case a gaming laptop probably isn't the right thing for you).

Wesley - That AKill is a nice option, will do some reading on it but so far it looks quite tempting.

Edit - They really need to get more info up on their site. Terms and conditions and About us for starters.

You can get from cybertrek and others that import them, and the Y500 is covered by the international warranty so you can import direct as well
