Hi all,

I would like some help here with gaming laptops. What would be the best laptop to buy and as a second option what laptop would be value for money.

Budget : 12-19k
Main focus : I care about the graphics for gaming the most, I don't really care about the CPU etc...

Please don't go and say - "Why don't you just a a desktop pc, you will get better etc..."

MSI GX60 - Since you don't care about CPU (Which is quite a silly thing to say)

MSI GE60 - Since it will probably be quicker with the better CPU.

Mecer W270EFQ - Budget Notebook for gaming.

So far I was looking at the MSI - GX60 cause of the card and it also looks pretty slick.

The CPU has to be decent but not brilliant cause the laptop is going to be used for gaming and basically nothing else.

@SirFook'ng - Isn't the 660 just below average now for gaming?

Seems to me the MSI is the best value for money compared to other brands although the Asus looks sexy. Also I don't want Toshiba laptops

660M is better on battery and faster GPU than the 670M. 670M faster memory than the 660M.

Comparrison 660M vs 670M

From this Toms Hardware review, the HD7970M looks to be better than the 660M or 670M

Probably old now... but price not bad. Never had any experience with the MSI ones mentioned.

What about the Dell XPS range or Alienware.... Those are pure gaming laptops....

The value for money isn't there. You typically pay more for similarly speccd hardware, and they tend to depreciate just as badly (sometimes even worse).

You cannot just say the 660M is better on battery and that it is faster purely based on MHz of the GPU!
Specifications are almost irrelevant. You need to check benchmarks & reviews instead.

The mobile graphics cards rank (in terms of performance) as follow: HD7970M > GTX 675M > GTX 670M > GTX 670M
If you don't think so, then have a look here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-675M.70785.0.html

The GX60 is horribly limited by the CPU. An i3 out performs it 9 times out of 10.
For CPU limited games eg. Planetside 2, it will be a complete dog.

670M and 675M are two completely different cards...

+1 Alienware is tops out there with gaming laptops, but you pay for it!

The only reason Alienware is "tops" is because some people think they are tops.
The amount of stupid tax on those machines is mind boggling. They don't even have any special cooling tech. that works better than the average notebook's and the styling makes you look like an infantile dumbass....
