Hi guys.

So, following up on my previous thread, I'd like to buy a gaming laptop since I go to a lot of LANs and whatnot and I'm tired of carrying around a bulky PC. I'd like something with at least a GTX 860M in it. Must be a 17inch.

Budget: R14, 000. Could push it to R15, 000.

I've been looking at the classifieds to try and find a good second hand one and have found a few so far. One of the better ones I've found is below:

MSI Stealth Pro GS70

I'd rather not go with the more popular Lenovo Y50 as I've seen many reviews say that it's screen is rubbish, keyboard is meh and trackpad is one of the worst. Also it's a 15inch.

Any suggestions?

Just keep in mind that it won't be very mobile...I've got a 15 one and that is already a mission...especially once you add headphone, mouse, power brick and maybe a work laptop. Next thing you know your schlepping a serious amount of weight around...

Offer looks a bit suspect though..."brand new"...but at a price far below what it should be? (17k before shipping to SA & VAT)

Sjoe! This looks like a decent machine. If only I could convince the missus.

It's by far the best value for money in this country. I have read about overheating issues though.

If you want second-hand stuff, scratch around carbonite.co.za and join the forums when you find a deal that you like. You can also post an ad there seeking a second-hand notebook and see what offers come your way.

Buying new, though, the Stealth GS70 is an option: http://www.takealot.com/msi-gs70-2od-stealth-17-3-inch-fhd-i5-notebook/PLID32828875. It just gets cheaper every month that I write up my laptop buyer's guide. MSI is currently holding back any model improvements for 900-series cards, so there will be some disconnect as to which models will have Kepler or Maxwell GTX 860 cards in them. I'm currently having connection issues and can't look up stuff properly, but the GTX 765 is still a damn fine card, though it would be preferable to see a 4GB GTX 960 in the Stealth sooner rather than later.

For R15k you will always end up subpar. Have you considered a mini-atx build in a compact chassis that has a carry handle & a gtx 970 GPU?
