Gaming PC Build for R8000

Also, there's nothing wrong with the R9500 budget rig if you drop the chassis. All you're losing is overclocking, really. I don't think OP is in need of that.

AMD Cpu's are alot cheaper

For instance the I7 4770k is slightly better then a 8350 from AMD but the I7 4770k is almost triple the price

Same as Nvidia and AMD GPU'S, Nvidia has recently gone mad with pricing where AMD GPU'S are cheaper for the same thing pretty much.

Depends on the games you run. With the FX-8350 and the Core i5-4690K going for roughly the same price, the Core i5 is the better choice by far. If multi-threaded apps form a large part of the workload that the PC will be subjected to, then I'd agree that Piledriver is a good choice.

If you remove the R880 case it's almost in the R10k budget. You can knock off another R400-500 going with a R9 270 gpu.
Knock another R200 off for the same MB from wootware.

Also change the CPU to a 4690k, no reason to get the 4670k when they cost the same - Wesley wrote that before the Haswell refresh. I'm sure he'd tell you to do the same.

There is actually still a reason to buy the i5-4670K instead. If you're overclocking your chip with air cooling, there's virtually no difference between the two. They still reach the same max temps in the same way, only the 4690K will be about 5 degrees lower if you're not stress-testing.

The thermal grease between the die and the heatspreader isn't what's holding back high overclocks, it's the gap to either side of the die underneath the heatspreader that traps heat. Some people may buy into Devil's Canyon for the cleaner and more fine-tuned power delivery, but it isn't necessary for most people.

Really thinking of selling my machine now...:erm:

You'd have to be on drugs to replace what you have now.

Really? I thought they specifically gave it better TIM (kinda like the sandy bridge vs ivy bridge thing, where sandy OC'd better?), but I don't know. All I remember about this is watching a LinusTechTips video where he interviews a Intel employee, so I have no proof and won't pretend that I do.

But, they're the same price though? At least on Takealot, unless I am missing something here?

I'd just buy whatever's in stock because I'm not interested in overclocking personally. If I'm putting in a recommendation on my guide I'd put in Devil's Canyon, however, because that would still enable stable, slightly cooler-running overclocks.

I need to correct myself here, it was an Anandtech thread and the dude was using a Core i7-3770K to illustrate the issues with Intel's TIM and heatspreader design and it still holds true with Haswell processors. The TIM isn't the issue, it's the black rubber glue that Intel uses which causes the heat trapping.
