Hey guys,

I think it is time to replace the PC in my sig. :D

Is it possible to buy a PC for <R6k that is able to play all the games currently available? Any recommendations as to where I can buy? I will be needing delivery.

Hope a few sellers see this.

Thanks

Spend 3k on a HD screen, then buy a second hand PC off a Nigerian prince with the other 3k. While waiting for the PC to arrive from Nigeria, ponder why useless questions result in useless answers.

At the very least provide us with some usable info like what you already have. And don't tell me its a 166mhz CPU but you spend a couple of grand a month on 2x 8mbps ADSL.

We are currently running a special for anybody upgrading from the coolest processor ever, the 166MMX :D Seriously though, for R6k you can get a decent gaming PC. Buy a 5850 for R3400, spend the rest evenly on everything else, and you will be able to play games for a very long time....

cpu, mobo, ram, chassis, psu, dvd & hdd for R2600? bargain.

btw your website is still wishing us merry christmas :D

No Gary, I'm a guy who doesn't live in the past. I use Windows 95 - "Where do you wanna go today". Also the Wheezer video on the Windows 95 disc is legend, plus I enjoy the magic schoolbus and Hover games!

@conradl, would you please pm me a quote.

Yeah stupid question. Of course my PC does. It is MMX technology!

Come on Guys - leave the poor guy alone. Maybe he had no need to upgrade in the past (Budget Problems) - but is OK now; out of school, working & can now afford a moderate rig. I am going to help you out - phone my friend, Theo, Midrand PC 082 764 7511 & and he will outfit you out; with best value for money.

Sorry, no I'm not making fun of you! That thing belongs in a museum! I'm amazed you still have it running. :) Good job.

Look, 6 grand is not really enough for a good gaming machine that will run the very latest games. There are some games that just won't run on that level. 9 or 10 grand would be better.

But if you have to stay within 6,000 bucks, then you are going to have to strike a nice balance between the processor (quad core) and a nice graphics card. You can get away with 2 gigs of RAM and a smaller hard drive... but don't skimp on the processor or graphics card.

R6000 is enough without a screen.

What screen do you really have? If you are willing to play crysis on your 14 inch you can build a fairly powerful machine. :D

I only officially bought the company last Monday (even though I have been running it for a few months) so now I can finally start hiring people to update the site - which has unfortunately not been maintained as it should....

Will send you a quote on Monday when I can confirm pricing, but it will look a little something like this like below (this spec may not even work in the current configuration :D). I know a lot of guys will tell you that the processor is too weak, and it needs more RAM etc.; but the display card, Rand for Rand, will offer the biggest performance benefit for gaming. Obviously Gigabyte is expensive and you could shave a few hundred bucks off buy buying another brand. I also have some really well priced stock that needs a home.... Lastly, you could go for a 5770, and use the R1000 price difference on other components.

And assuming that you will be running Linux of course :D

Not going to happen with a 5850..

Maybe got 5770 and a better PSU? Coolermaster 500w or something.

320w PSU.. :D

Yeah, saw that and thought to myself that it would make a nice smoke feature when it starts melting :) I have 4 cases in stock that I need to get rid of, and thought that the OP could just buy an Odin585 to go with the case, keeping the price at around the same. Was just too lazy to spell that out and thought I would put in the quote....

Dont be dof.

Buy yourself a PS3 slim + a 24'' Philips full HD (1920X1080p) display.

Then get yourself Call of Duty : World at War, or Killzone 2 from Woolworths, phone your friends to tell them that you're "out of the country" for the next week and you're sorted.

Oh, and I see they just got Bioshock 2. :)

That pc is will have no life span. Rather build something more balanced which will give you some life span and upgradeability long term. In a year or so you can sell the graphics card for R1000 and upgrade to that generations R1500 card. It'll probably be equivalent to a R3500 HD 5850.
