WiFi is hit and miss for this sort of thing because it depends as much on your environment as on your hardware.

What router do you currently have? Have you checked that you can use QOS/Bandwidth Management to ensure your gaming device has priority on the network?

Yes my current router is a cheap R300 TP Link and it does not have that functionality.

Caveat emptor is that Mikrotik routers are not straightforward for the unwashed to configure.
