Not that clear. It's at least as clear on owning slaves, raping and pillaging after a conquest and selling your daughter.
 
Well hey, I consider myself religious yet I don't at all agree with some of the scribbling going on in the bible. I can quote some examples if Direct 90-degree contradictions - in the same chapter!! So... yea. Especially the thing about "Unconditional love, so long as you don't like boys. If you're a boy." Hey wait. Didn't you say Unconditional? :confused::confused:

I was actually at a gay wedding this weekend. Was nice to see my friends tie the knot. And it had an open bar. :D
 
can someone point out to me how the bible can be interpreted to not be against homosexuality?

i have no issues against people choosing to be, but i really can't seem to remember anything in the bible that favours it. but then again i don't take the bible seriously so i could quite have easily missed such a thing.

Eh, that is just you interpreting the translated-to-English text. You need to see everything in the Bible in context and even then you might lose some meaning cause it is a translated book and not in the original language. And who on earth does not like boys? :confused: :confused:

For Example:

So what do you mean with like? Like as in Like or do you mean Love? Also, should a brother not like & love his own brother?

Do you mean "male child/a youthful male person" when referring to a boy or rather an "informal reference to a grown man"?

I could go on and on...

In any case, getting back to the topic. Waaib I do not see what your problem is. A marriage can have dresses and cake... without being religious at all. Even if it is religious, so what? It is their right to do what they want - leave them be imo. :confused:

There are some churches that are supportive of gay weddings. The bible is a survival guide for life 2000 years ago, I thinl it is long due a revision. In fact if I was ever to write my novel I would take the bible and bring it up to speed with the 21st century.

given the bible was originally touted as a recordal of factual events that happened, it would require a complete mindset change from the christian religion for it to be rewritten.

A lot of different people can be authorised to perform marriage ceremonies, including captains of ships, religious people like priests and reverends and magistrates too.

Maybe your parents got married very, very long ago, when magistrates could possibly have done these ceremonies in court, but as far as the modern law is concerned, it is done by Home Affairs.
 
yep i have been a witness at the Wynberg (Jhb) Home Affairs when a mix up happened and the priest didn't register a wedding.
 
I really think we should keep religion out of this topic.

I really cant think of any reason for anyone to have the whole ceremony with dress (dresses) and suit (suits), cake etc.
But each to his own.

As for the right to get married, that has to be a given.
And as with straight couples with a Star Wars themed wedding, why cant a gay couple have a traditional white dress weddings?

The bible tells you to love your neighbour...the Karma Sutra explains how!


Anyway - think of it this way before passing judgment:

Are their actions...

a) directly affecting/interrupting your day-to-day life
b) costing you money
c) causing you / your family any injuries
d) any of your damn business

If not, then what's the big deal? Are we truly so bored with our own lives that we have to meddle in the lives of those who want to be happy? Jealousy brings out the worst in us.

Pretty difficult in a thread about marriage when marriage is largely set out as a religious thing. I would guess that less than 1% of marriages do not involve some form of religious connection in most cultures.

however if your point is that marriage (ie committing yourself to one partner for life) should be seen as just that instead of some religious event, i would wholeheartedly agree with you.

Anyone who thinks the old testament is a literal account of history should be commited to an insane asylum and that is putting it politely.

Even the new testament is so full of propaganda and smear tactics against opponents of Christianity that it should not be seen as a historical record.

This is exactly the problem with organised religion. By doggedly refusing to see these religious texts for what they are they end up spreading more hatred than anything else in a greedy attempt to fill pews and collection plates.

People should be careful to follow the spirit of these books and not the letter.

Voicy, you forget that Christianity is one of the religions where the followers got strict instructions to convert the heathens.

So they will always be on the lookout for 'sinners'.
 
The bible says: "love thy neighbour".

Make sure you obey the eleventh commandment: "Thou shall not be caught"
