GDR3 Officially Announced

The updates are depended on which operator the phone was bought from not what sim you have in it.

You sure about that? Wouldn't that imply its operator locked?

Maybe there are some additional factors, because madzta was not getting updates and I was, even though be both bought it through Vodacom. The only difference is that i have an MTN sim and he didn't.

I did a fiddler intercept on out going calls and the datapacket interestingly had strings that mentioned MTN, Vodacom and Cell-C in it.

Oh well, you're probably right, and I don't know enough to argue, I'm just glad I got my update3.

One thing though GD3 on my Samsung halved my battery life :-(

Yes, the phones aren't network locked but each operator sells a phone that has a unique product code to them and then you get generic country variant phones.

It might be that Vodacom sold some country variant phones before they got the "Vodacom" version of the phone.

The generic country variant phones tend to receive updates last as all the operators in a country needs to have approved the update first before the generic phones get the update.

Geez, that makes a whole lotta sense, because GDR2 was released in September last year , but for us her in deepest Africa, we only got it end of January!
