Gearbest.com - Any good?

So gearbest got back to me saying they always declare the full value of the purchase and would not reduce that declartion amount ever and I should familiarise myself with the terms and conditions....

Looks like it's better to cancel the order then. Not keen on fighting a customs charge of R1200 for a R1900 phone.

Btw postal service is about a 2 to 3 months waiting time.

I like the postal service as customs are usually pretty low if any but take ages to come and when it passes customs and you get local tracking number it can be redirected to a couple of post offices before it finally lands at the right one. Then it's a mission to collect as they no longer send collection notices instead they send you a sms that actually never arrives and you have to force the post office emloyee to search for your parcel.

I was actually turned away from the post office once when the local tracking number showed the parcel was there but because I did not get a sms she refused to help me saying she eill have to search for a parcel that can take hours.
Why will you use postal lol ?

Yeah, that is pretty insane. That's definitely wrong, Should be at the highest about R500.
I know right. I feel so rip off from Aramax. First time I ever used them and I am so disappointed.

I keep phoning them about the other item I have pay R330 in customs that I simply refuse. R330 for a 2x USB hubs worth $23 in total? No thanks!

I have 3 packages incoming via Aramex.
2 separate packages for the MI A2. One for me and wifey
Last package screen protectors and protective cases. I am hoping it will be at my door in three weeks or so.

Have your MI A2's shipped? I noticed that the Gearbest site is saying they will only be sent out mid to late September

The black one has shipped and is showing movement.
The other blue one I received a shipping number for Aramex but there is still no movement.

IF you want to save on courier and customs then going postal is your best option. Leave the parcel undeclared or declared @ $20 and IF and that is a very big IF because they almost never catch it then the customs are so low. My highest customs duty I paid with post office is like R180 for a R4000 phone a while back.

They usually just send it through and if they want a invoice any invoice will do.

The only problem is the delay with post office. In 2015/2016 it would have taken MAX 30days to reach here now it takes nothing less than 2 months and most of the times 3 months. Worst part is after it arrives and gets "lost" and you have to start the process all over again.

That said most parcels do reach here eventually you just have to wait. Also the force R24 handling fees is just a way for SAPO to make money because their service has actually deteriorated... Couple of years back there was no R24 fee and you just collect. Good old days

When ordering and selecting priority line it notes "Middle East Express". Is this Aramex priority line? I see in the first few pages of this thread the same question was asked but could not see a confirmation that this is the case.

Thanks will. I only realized last night that the free smart watches was sent separately.
I now have 5 packages incoming, sigh.

Don't blame Aramex because you did not do research on how much duties you would pay importing products, Aramex has nothing to do with Sars customs, don't be salty because YOU did not research.

There is no amount of research one can do that would substantiate a customs charge for that amount on that value. Unless you care to enlighten me. If you use Aramex global shopper that parcel would've just gone through with no charge. This is also not TNT or DHL that charge exorbitant clearance fees.

Yes there is they can request what tariff code was used and if the correct tarrif code for his products was used the codes are no secret you can find them with that magical thing called Google.

Geabest does not under declare but customs can use an incorrect tarrif.

Ignorance is no excuse to not pay because they are salty.

I'm quite confused and concerned with the replies relating to the customs you guys paid. When I ordered my phone I believe in 2017,i paid around R3000 for the phone and like R300 for customs.... How is it that some people are getting nailed with over R500+ on customs for a phone. Something is definitely wrong.

The tarrif was changed if memory serves, they upped the % on luxury goods.
