General coffee thread

Does anyone have a recommendation over where to buy portafilters and unpressurized baskets, both in-person (in Johannesburg) or online?

I've seen a confusing array of items on Takealot, but compatability is my biggest concern. My Morphy Richards coffee machine has the classic "three ears" on the portafilter, but they've got some leveling to one ear of each tab in a way that might give some massive compatability headaches.
Try AliExpress.

It's perfectly fine to put it in the freezer. Highly recommend and keeps its fresh. If I buy large quantity of beans I freeze it after 3 weeks of roasting date.

You can't go wrong with freezing beans.
If you do it correctly, absolutely.

I have trauma from growing up with frozen coffee that wasn't properly sealed/stored. Hell, sometimes it went to the fridge, then the freezer. So you had funky food aromas and freezer burn combined with the stale coffee taste. Yummy.

I find it hard to buy enough beans to justify freezing any of it. We're 2 people and we go through a kilo like its nothing.

Yeah I keep them in their bags sealed. Most have the degassing valve and it seems to compress and let out all air as it freezes. The open bags go into the Airscape container.

Middle Eastern visitors are chasing good local coffee ... while the Americans are, what? Sitting in the McDonalds drivethrough for some burned filter coffee (a real taste of home)?

I'm still amazed at how much bad coffee you get, even with restaurants. I'd love a massive James Hoffman-style scientific expose on local coffee quality, because places don't seem to understand the simple basics of "maybe don't buy your coffee beans in bulk at the same time as your toiletpaper". Like what's even the point of your super fancy espresso maker with its five parallel brew groups, if you're feeding Koffiehuis into it?

started this week with the Seven Sages blend from Aphrodite's coffee in PE. Was quite surprised how much I liked it and they even delivered to me over the weekend.

Not a huge coffee fan anymore but I can find a place in my life for cold brew.
