General Photography

Can somebody recommend any good software to remove noise from pics? I'm shooting quite high ISO (800 - 1600) because I don't really have a good lens for night shooting on my 20d. So I want to try clean up some of the shots I've taken. Any ideas? Actually and advice would be welcome.
 
Try noise ninja and/or dfine.

I don't really know what 800 and 1600 ISO look like on the 20D (maybe similar to the 350D?). You should have gotten a copy of Canon's Digital Photo Professional with your camera. I would start by grabbing the update for it. It does a very decent job and doesn't cost a penny. TBH, I'm having a hard time getting better results out of Noise Ninja than I get with DPP (but that may just be limitations in my skills). Get the update from the download page of one of the newer camers - they offer a later model. Here are the pages for the 20D and 7D

Thanks koffiejunkie. I haven't seen the noise on the 350d so I can't rally compare the two but from what I have read they should be fairly similar. I've just had another look at the shots I took yesterday and it's going to be quite difficult because there is actually a bit of snow falling in some of the picks whick looks like noise when I resize the images. :confused: What to do, what to do.

I have some 1600 ISO 350D raw files around. If I get a gap today, I'll have a look and see what it can do.

I've got some 400D 3200 ISO shots if you'd like to play with them.

It's 30°c + today so snow is out of the question . . . :)

I would actually. I do actually have 350D shots at high-ISO. I borrowed a camera to do a work function. I'm just not sure I have any shots that I can post here.

It's snowing here right now. Not that that's a concern. Myself and another Saffa celebrated his b-day last night with the Weber planted firmly in a foot of snow :)

We call that a snow-BQ. We had one after the first snows here and I think it may become a tradition. I may have a pic of me and another Saffer braaing in shorts, t-shirts, beanies and snow boots. The neighbours thing we are nuts. They just don't understand our culture. :D

Here, a "topical" pic, seeing that the MadMan is in Zurich:



350d at ISO 800 (AFAI recall, 350d and 20d had same sensor).

Nice shots there bigal. What lens did you have on your 350d? I'm still shooting everything through the 17-85 kit lens. I only just got aproval from "the minister of finances" to get me a couple new lenses. :D

If I had to guess I'd say the 18-55 kit lens - at least for the one at the airport.

Lens shopping is fun :)

The 50mm f/1.8 II is an amazing lens at a great price.
