They work fine with other brand triggers, it’s just nice to control the power remotely and get HSS when you use the Godox trigger. Watch FB marketplace, you can often pick them up for under R1000, just remember for TTL and HSS you need the brand specific Godox trigger, Nikon, Fujifilm etc.
Right now getting a second [battery powered] strobe on it's own will do me more good than the trigger and my existing single strobe but it's definitely on my shopping list. :)

And I got a second one...

Thinking of rounding off the set with a couple AD100 Pros.

I've been keeping an eye out for a decent secondhand one of these f/4s for a while now.

It's a good question. The bigger aperture also makes a world of difference in challenging light, especially out at 200mm

Why the F4 in particular?
You can get the 2.8 IS Mk I version for pretty good money these days
Because it's half the weight of my Mk2 f/2.8 IS (745g vs 1527g) and renowned for it's sharpness. I've ordered a collar for it so I can use it for portraits instead of the Mk2.

NB: although visible in the photo I weighed the 2.8 without the collar just to be fair.

Yeah the 2.8 IS is a beast, if you don't need 2.8 the F4 is an awesome lens and cheap as chips.
That being said IS is really helpful at 200mm, I used a non IS 135mm the other day and you had to keep the shutter speed really high to keep things sharp but seeing you will get a collar thats assuming you'll be using it tripod mounted so maybe IS is a moot point then.

I'm not getting rid of the 70-200 f/2.8 but for day to day I really just want to carry as little as possible. I used to have the f/4 but it broke and the repair shop decided to sell it rather than return it.

Picked up a Godox AD200 Pro yesterday with a second on order - I think I'm going to have fun with these.

New addition to my Godox family - AD100 Pro to go with my two AD200s.

Nice! Out of interest what do you use them for?
Mostly headshots and full length portraits for various sports teams. I had a couple postponement last year due to load shedding so I've gone all battery.

I have the F4 lens, but the non-IS. It is an unbelievably sharp lens. I thought about upgrading to either the F4 IS or the F2.8 IS at some stage, but then realize that I am not going to use F2.8 and I don't really need the IS as the normal F4 lens is super sharp.

Depends what you do I guess. On my 200-600mm I can get as low a shutter speed as 1/200 right out at 600mm and still get sharp images handheld. I don't think it would be possible without IS.

My f/4 is also the non-IS version. It's a sharp lens. I put it though FoCal and it didn't require any Micro-AF adjustment.

But my f/2.8 does still bring some things to the table, so while I might not carry it on a daily basis I'm still keeping it. :)

Unlikely to be an issue with a 70-200... unless you want to use a 2x TC, which in turn brings a whole host of other issues to the table.
Godox stuff is amazing value and very reliable and robust in my experience.
I've got set Godox's 3x 300w strobes I bought when I was first starting out that have survived thus far. TBH if it wasn't for loadshedding I probably wouldn't have bought these.

That's a fair point. I guess it still comes down to the type of shooting you do. If the lighting is broad daylight or dawn/dusk and handheld or with a tripod etc. Also if you've got a decent body IBIS helps a lot as well.
