I'm currently in Thailand and bought a little point and shoot film camera. Pretty easy to find film here and getting it developed & scanned is really cheap, at around R60 for a roll of 36. I'm having so much fun with it.

However when I go back to South Africa, getting it developed locally is impossible and usually requires sending away etc.
Anyone know where to buy the chemicals? Online is fine.
I do have a room in the garage that goes blackout dark, so I certainly have the space to develop it at home - just need the equipment and chemicals. Suggestions?

TIA

Check this video how to dev film. You can get chemicals from ORMS but few other places stock it too.
You can even roll your own.

Equipment wise check Facebook market or buy new.

If you are in CT we have little group that organizes analogue photo walks.

But is that really going to be cheaper than just paying Orms or whoever to develop a few rolls?
Unless he plans on regularly shooting film and developing I don’t see how he will save anything, nevermind the cost of trial and error to get the process spot on.

If I understood correctly main issue was developing and not cost.
But you are correct all depends how often he shoots. If it is few rolls of BW per month then it might be worth while (also depends if he can get tank cheaply).

I had some people pop in and bring film so we develop together but no guarantees

Don't mind spending a bit as I would love to learn how to develop regardless, taking the risk of flops into consideration, that's part of the learning experience. :)

But yea nearest city is Durban, which I'm not sure if there's any suppliers.
For anything I'm real serious about I'll still use my digital.

That's so cool!
Yea I have a mate in the UK who's developing B&W photos using the Caffenol method with some cool results.

I'll be a happy man if I never have to set foot inside another darkroom.
Yep, unless you are doing fine art prints or something truly artistic in the darkroom whats the point. It is an amazing process and rewarding but not that much. The sad thing is so many people shoot film now days but then just get digital scans of the negs and don’t make prints, prints truly are where the magic of film is.

I've been keeping an eye out for a decent secondhand one of these f/4s for a while now.

Spent the afternoon using this at a team portrait session and I'm still blown away by the sharpness of this lens. I'm not quite ready to sell my f/2.8 but it is tempting. I ordered a third party tripod ring for it but it hadn't arrived in time.

The Godox AD200Pros and AD100 also performed admirably.

Those are awesome, relative to their size they have huge light output and amazing runtime.
I’m assuming you got one of their wireless triggers to remotely control the power and trigger them?
I've got a bunch of portrait sessions coming up so I broke down and went and got myself the X2T.

My tripod collar for the 70-200 f4 also finally arrived.

It’s awesome having full control of your strobes right on camera, I prefer the Xpro trigger though, easier to change the power on the fly and switch between strobes, it is a bit more bulky though

I don't have to change the flash power that often once it's set up but it doesn't seem to be too difficult to do, either on the trigger or via bluetooth from my phone.

The X2T also has a hotshoe, so I can still use my pocket wizards with my non-godox flashes.

And it was cheaper! :D

Is that two AD200's into one double flash head?
Those are great flashes, quick recycle and a really long battery life.
It's the two AD200pros with the two bare bulbs that come with them.

A little extra oomph for a upcoming project.

Used it yesterday for the first time and it worked well. I would have preferred using it with a large softbox umbrella but it was a little too windy so ended up using a Godox 60cm softbox. which basically sits snugly over the S ring.

I'm not sure if it's a true 400Ws but it threw out a good amount of light.

Now all I need is another two AD200s so I can get another one. :)

Is 1 stop (f/2.8 v f/4) worth 3.3kg for the [roughly] same 400mm focal length?
