Sorry. Still figuring this out.

I'm using the in camera resizing options.

Which one should I use for uploading here. There are 4 option on the camera - M, S1, S2 and S3 or should I resize on PC?

Unless you're running out of space on your card its generally advisable to shoot the largest size possible. As far as posting on the forum goes resize on the computer. BTW the people you email photos to will appreciate it just as much. :)

I am shooting on the highest setting possible with the average file size at about 7-8mb. RAW comes in at 25-30mb.

I then selected the picture and resized it on the camera and the file size came down to just over 1mb and uploaded the camera resized pic.

This is resized to S3 on the camera.

Ordered a set (3x) of Godox 300w studio lights today complete with stands and modifiers.

It was a toss up between lights and a tripod/head but I figured the lights would actually be useful.

So would I but my missus filled my studio full of old furniture from her gran's flat.
 
Strobes arrived today - think I'm going to have a bit of fun with these. :) The camera shop was kind enough to swap the included umbrella for another small softbox which suits me just fine.

Yes and no, if u gonna try to shoot stuff then moves a lot ... rather get a proper lens . Shooting stuff like a spider then it works like a charm . Just remember when u reverse mount a lens your camera will loose it AF so u gonna need to manual focus. Next problem is, u need a good light source.I bounce my flash of something white and works great

Tomorrow we are attending an open day of an organisation called "Friends of the Rail".

Their goal is to keep the old Steam trains running and they organise trips on these trains ever so often. Usually the trips are between Cullinan and Pretoria but tomorrow's trip will be one around the whole of Pretoria.

During the open day they will have plenty of trains, old railway equipment (eg Trolley Cars), vintage cars / bikes and other stuff.

Will really appreciate some tips, especially on photographing the cars. Never done it before.

I'm taking my regular kit lenses and I still have the 50mm F1.4 that a friend was so kind to forget at my place.

We used to have the Apple Express here in PE which was a fun day out - sadly they ran out of money iirc. I used to put pennies on the rail and the weight of the train and cars would flatten and distort it - made a nice keepsake. Pennies are hard to come by these days but maybe you could do that with your nikon? :D

I'd probably shoot wide so your kit lens might be all you need.

Guys to minimise shots with that gremlin appearing is that a shooting without lens-hood issue or perhaps the lens filter introducing it meaning i need to look at buying a better quality one?

Shooting directly into the sun, or any other ridiculously bright light source you're always going to run the risk of flaring. A lens hood probably wouldn't help, but it won't hurt, and a filter almost certainly makes it harder to avoid.

Ok thanks Bwana, so if i don't want to remove the filter its more or less a live with it & deal with it in PP deal huh.
