General Photography

Believe i read that some D600's did have oil getting onto sensor issues,
Must you buy new with insurance? cos if you can buy 2nd hand there's alway deals coming thru in differant places & with the exchange rate where it is you can get in for a much lower price than new.....was a D3 going for 15k the other week.

Edit: Its still there - Is also a 70-200mm 2.8 up from the same seller

D7100 vrs D600 4k diff
Tough not to go there now.....not sure about the D600 but the D800 you can choose DX mode if your worried about losing reach.

The D600 offers selectable image area options: FX format (35.9 x 24.0 mm) and DX format (23.5 x 15.7 mm). Each image area can be confirmed in the viewfinder. In DX format, you can get closer to distant subjects and capture them using a lens with a short focal distance. Also, you can make good use of your DX lenses because it is possible to keep sufficient image size (approx. 10.4 megapixels) even in DX-format image area thanks to the 24.3 effective megapixels. When a DX NIKKOR lens is used, DX format is automatically selected as the default setting.

Always seen that as little more than a gimmick. Why not just crop in post and give yourself the full frame size to make your cropped selection from?

That's really silly. My insurance company just transfers the money to my bank account.

EDIT - it's also a pity because I have it on good authority AVUSA is switching to Canon soon so they're going to be getting rid of their Nokon gear.

Are these for your water droplet photography? Can't say I know much about strobes but these look interesting so some feedback at a later stage would be appreciated. Last year I picked up a set (three) of Godox 300w strobes and I've been really impressed with them for studio work.

Agreed but it can give you a better look at what your getting + about the whole image is covered in AF points when in multi point mode.

Yes for the drops that need fast flash duration more so than power so our interest is probably at opposite ends - i just last night hit a buy order on 1 & then today an Einstein finally came up at a good price which i couldn't let go so now i have both coming & i don't think i'll be keeping the AD360 too long but we'll see.
Living in a complex arrangement doing dropping pics in the wee small hours in my [-]stu-dee-oh[/-] lounge I'm worried the Einsteins popping might be an issue but it will def be the best for flash duration @ down to 1/13,500 (t.1)
If i decide to keep the AD360 you can have a borrow of it & see what you think.

Just back on that topic - Its probably mostly there to stop the likes of this when a DX lens is used on a FX body - this is a no crop 1.2x image area selected,full FX 1.1x would be worse still.At default settings the cam will normally switch over to DX (1.5x)image area but it can be overridden in the menu.

Let me run this by you guys.

I've decided to stick to the D7100 but also go over my budget a bit and get myself the Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 VC and also the 70-200mm F2.8. I already have my Nikon 35mm F1.8 replaced but doubt I'll be using it anymore with the 24-70.

Those two lenses cover 90% of the focal range I usually shoot at. Later on I might add a proper wide angle. And for anything longer I will rent from Outdoorphoto.

Sounds good. I love my Canon 35mm 2.0 btw. Use it quite often, especially for group shots. On the 6D it gives me a wide enough angle with nice bokeh. I tend to do family shots at weddings outside now if possible because of the awesome look.

Yeah Tun@. Also Tamron. Unfortunately the Nikon is way out of my budget if I still want to replace my bag, tripod and get a decent walk-around lens like I am doing now with the 24-70. The image stabilisation is also a nice added benefit on the 24-70. Something the Sigma/Nikon/Canon version does not offer.

I also read up quite a bit on the Nikon/Tamron 70-200 lenses and there is very little difference. Yes the Nikon might be a bit sharper in the corners but I will be 100% content with that. For what I am doing I truly cannot justify spending almost my whole budget on just one lens.

Doubt it as well. ;) My 50mm f/1.4 is a bit of a dust magnet these days. :o
 
Been looking on ebay for an Einstein E640 monolight to come up a) at a decent price & b) one that someone that would ship outside the US.
They've been selling on ebay for same price as new for ages.
I'd almost given up on looking then finally a search bought one up for a BIN at a decent price & the lister was Andorama.
I bought & paid for it at 6pm thursday.....Its now already hit Joberg...
So if you were ever wondering how Andorama's service is.........wow nice!

$95 ,Been quoted that price before too cept this one has what looks like a 7" dish included.
New their $500 but you can't buy direct from US and the AU & EU dealer prices suck.

Okay. Getting excited now.

If all goes well I will have my new D7100 with the two Tamron lenses (24-70 F2.8 & 70-200 F2.8) tomorrow.

Then I can get shooting again. Just in time for some school athletics, water polo and rugby.
