General Plasma & LCD discussions

You said it yourself...

I'll give you another chance to show that I lied or recommended 720p TV for 1080p viewing.

Last chance now, otherwise don't bother replying.

Someone has no sense of humour, does he? I could say the same to you, understand it and accept it. I stand by my points and that won't change. I don't care what you think, its your choice. And its also your own problem that you can't live with the fact that other people don't share your opinion. Ever considered that there is more than one answer? Of course not, because you believe that you, and you only are right. PostmanPot, the king of TVs.

Oh, I have a great sense of humour. The regulars of this forum will attest to that. I simply don't have a good sense of humour when you attempt humouring me by using the lowest form of wit. I owe you nothing for that.

This is not about opinion, it is about everyone who has come to this forum seeking advice who has chosen entry plasma over entry LCD when comparing 720p, SD and TV content (gaming too, less relevant). It is about the experts who have owned more equipment than both you and I and who have vastly more experience than you and I, who again recommend entry plasma over entry LCD.

Again, I have numbers. You don't.

Try to deal with it.

Increase budget to the mid range, I have no problem accepting and admitting that mid range LCD is as good these days.

You just can't take it that some people don't agree with you!

Let me tell you again, I don't agree with you! You are wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Ever considered that many more people may actually have chosen LCD but since they also realised that it is impossible to argue with someone like you they just shut up :-).

You just can't help but comment on every post someone makes that goes against your Plasma believes

You just can't take it that some people don't agree with you!

Who would when there are only 5% of people who've ever been in contact with them that disagree? While 95% agree?

You are in the 5%. The 95% is the 30+ forumites who have bought entry plasma over entry LCD, as well as the experts who recommend entry plasma over entry LCD.

It is you who just can't take it that most people don't agree with you and you are therefore wrong.

Spin it any way you like, I have numbers on my side. You don't. 95% vs 5%. Experts vs non-experts.

Not true, when entry plasma is deemed the incorrect option such as in cases where 1080p is a must, or computer use/work is a must - I comment and promote entry LCD. Again, stick around and read some more. Your idea of my views is very inaccurate. You're wrong, again.

No I'm not :-)

Please start a PostmanPot's Plasma vs LCD Wars thread. This is really getting a bit ridiculous. We've now all heard it enough.

Figure I'll just hijack this thread for a bit :p (mostly cos I can't find the other thread at ALL)...

Here's my setup as it stands now.. probably about 80% done now...

Oh I have before, search my thread history. :p That doesn't prevent this. This is LCD and Plasma discussions.

Nice. Specs? Fireplace poses no problem? There was a thread on it, quite interesting.

One critique - would have been better to have the center speaker below the TV. So the experts say.

Its one of those epically amazing Samsun LA46C530's... you know.. the one that eclipse's all plasma out there :p Marantz Amp.. and LG speakers () for now.. until I can replace them with better Jamo's or Missions or something of that nature.

Doing some tests on it.... fireplace wall never gets hot at all actually.... will see about surrounding temperature over the next few weeks.

Yeah, Its the one bugger up of my setup.. I forgot about the center speaker when I mounted the TV... so what I've done is angle it down to the couch so it fires down at you instead of over you.

yeah i must just go by one of their shops.

Im not 100% sure about this being a old model. On their website it says added "20 may 2011"

Also on LG (granted it is India's LG zone) :
"Bring in 2011 with the new range of Jazz Series LCD TV's. Powerpacked with 300W PMPO, enjoy stunning visuals along with great sound & come alive to the sound"

I dunnnno, i guess going to look at it is the best option :D

May be confused with the numbering, didn't notice the LK. Strange that its an Indian TV model?

FDW are totally legit.. bought a marantz amp from them last month and all went perfectly smoothly

Toxic - have a look at B&W speakers too. They usually blend perfectly with Marantz

To which point are you replying? I agree with you on that, makes perfect sense. True 720p plasma's are also forgiving to SD content.

The other reason being that picture quality (blacks, colours, motion) is simply better on entry plasma than entry LCD. Entry LCD's only advantage is resolution, if you need the pixels, sit close to the TV to get the full benefit of FHD, etc.

What I meant was that the 4:3 resolution is actually a major benefit for SD; quite a bit of SD content is still filmed with 4:3 in mind. As such, those entry level plasmas actually have an advantage over, e.g. higher end plasmas. Of course this only applies to the resolution differences for the purist.

I agree 100%.

And the intermal processing in the Samsung 4 Series plasmas is sooo good that 4:3 even looks good with the rectangular pixels/16:9 AR! :) :D
