That's why I asked for your LCD's model number, because we are comparing two specific TVs, and not two "technologies" in general (inverted commas for obvious reasons). Feel free to divulge the LCD model number if you want to continue the discussion. :)

Reasons being that it is 100hz (it says 200hz but there is some very complicated thing going on there with dimming etc to make it "200hz" but its actually 100hz) and the screen is an ultra clear panel, so reflections are not THAT bad, but its still not a matter screen like my Sony was.

The PS550 would be great, but the screen reflections would probably get to me a little....

It will be used for only HD sources: HDPVR and occasional console gaming.

Any thoughts from people?

Was there a CRT TV there before? Did its reflections get to you? Describe the room and lighting, sun, etc.

Though the D6000 may handle motion better since the PS51D550 is IIRC 50Hz engine. You would need to test both, of course.

So the only thing it would have on its side is the size for around R3,000 cheaper. There are also FHD Panasonic plasmas, 51" around R13,000 IIRC.

I don't know what it is, its at home I'm at work. So I won't be able to continue with a comparison then. But its old and colours look washed out compared to the new one to me and that was my experience

Then that's why the LED-LCD is better, because it's newer. ;)

There is a CRT there at the moment until we get a new one. The reflection don't bother me that badly, but the screen size is significantly smaller. There is a large window to the left of where the TV sits. I think that the FullHD Sammy plasma is a wonderful TV, but I am just worried that I will get it home and regret it because of the super shiny screen....

Oh okay then but one thing thats not better on the new one is the gloss the old one is matt.
I hate the gloss on a sunny day geez! Why do they make them all gloss these days its silly!?

Yeah sounds like it isn't suitable... Then again the D6000 is also a tad reflective AFAIK...

What direction does the window face? Does the sun shine through it at important TV watching times? When are they? Curtain? Thicker curtain? :D

Really silly. Gloss does improve colours though. So it could be due to being competitive and making your brand's TVs look as best as possible to the innocent buyers... :D

It is a tad reflective, but all of the Sammy's are :( I like Sony, but there current range doesn't look all that amazing, and they are more expensive.

The window faces Eastish, so its only an issue in the mornings I suppose..... Maybe I should just get an uber-thick curtain? :D

Any other recommendations? If the sammy plasma had a slight anti-reflective coating, I'd take it in a heart-beat!!! Dammit!

I will look at the Panasonic plasmas... but meh, I dunno

Not sure what plasmas LG has on offer. Otherwise you're pretty much left with the existing two Samsung options. Unless there is an older Samsung 52/55" LCD/LED-LCD for around the same price.

R3k saving on PS51D550 could go towards a new curtain and other toys...

That is true........... Both sets have gotten very good reviews, so I'm sure that I will be happy with both....

I have a la40c530 lcd with a matt screen like your Sony, and a ua46d6000.

The d6000's ultra clear panel is actually less reflective than the c530, but theres a difference. The c530's matt screen diffuses all reflection so they just look like a blob of brighter area on the screen while the d6000's relections, although less bright are well formed (e.g. you can make out your own face).

So I would say the lcd matt screen is better in that the reflections are not as distracting to the eye. As usual best is to try find a store where you can see the different screen types e.g. matt, clear & glass side by side.
 
Question. What would the Sammy UA32D4003B be like for Pc use?

Game has them for R3999. Seems decent.

What amazes me is that a 32" LCD is cheaper than a 27" Pc monitor.

Terrible. It's HD Ready (i.e. up close you will benefit from more pixels), which should be the dead giveaway.

Forget about the bezel and just get the LA32D550. ;) Mine's bezel also irked me at first but you get used to it.

I looked at the D550 and it didn't actually look to bad.

Thanks Roman. I ended up getting the D6000, and I'm very happy with it. The reflections are only noticeable if the screen is completely black or off. As soon as there is an image the reflections dissapear. :)
