Guys I need some help, and please give an honest answer... don't burn me etc.

What do you guys suggest would be the best TV set for a Nintendo Wii?
Yes, I know due to machine's sub-HD capabilties (480p) it wouldn't look good on just any large screen panel (I've seen on some panels it can look hideously jaggy).
So what set should I be keeping an eye out for? In terms of size? LCD/PLASMA/LED? Brand? HD ready/Full HD? etc

I kinda want to set up a party system for when the mates come over...
Also, when I choose to get xbox/ps3 down the line the current TV would be adequate.
Thanks!

R4,999 Samsung PS43D450 plasma. 1024x768 native res (4:3) but with rectangular pixels for 16:9/wide screen. So you get the best of both worlds.

Sir P.P.! I need a swing vote here. I have an LCD (32" HDReady Sammy) and my 50B550 Plasma. Now, my second mede8er died last week, and have been streaming through my PS3 to the Plasma, and have been gaming off my plasma instead of the LCD. Anyways, i have built a new main bedroom and need to decide on a tv for it. This TV, will become my gaming TV as well. I keep thinking i must get a 40" LCD, although, i also keep coming back to how good PS3 looks and plays on my plasma, much better than my lcd. Viewing distance for new tv is +/- 4.5m, so i'm not going to notice nay improvement going full hd over hd ready. I want to buy the 43D450 but just need that extra push. I don't have DSTV / SD content. Thanks

Where can I buy it in Gauteng? Preferrably in the areas near Alberton - specially in JHB South.

Best to go to a proper AV shop and compare both in a dark room from distance.

Truth is, from 4.5m, even SD will look good. Can you even game from that distance?

There might be some Panasonic plasmas that have higher resolution at 42".

Can't fit 51" HD Ready?

LCD will be better if you ever sit closer than 2m. It's also future proof. Also there won't be a problem in bright settings/direct sunlight.

Ag just go test yourself, you know what to do, you know what you want.

HA ha. Thanks P.P. It's the 43D450 then. If i sit 2 meters away when i game it's too close! Play all games in 720 in any case. Thanks for the push...

Glad to give that nudge, enjoy. Sounds like it'll suit you perfectly. Should offer a noticeable PQ improvement over your B450!

Maybe test the D490 with 3D if budget allows - still not sure if it offers better PQ/motion handling than D450... :D

Don't get me wrong, like most do, by all means test the LCD, D Series really are the kings of entry LCD.

No more LCD's for me. My current LCD can stay for my PC, and i'll move over to gaming on the plasma. It's just so much better and faster. Would like to go bigger, but mid wall is 1200 wide with windows either side, so would like to fix in between them, and leave space for the missus to tie her curtains. 43" is perfecto. Thanks.

Postman! Please try help me, this fking tv is pissing on my parade.

What settings do I need to have it on?

I tried a HDMI cable, looks kak, tried a HDMI -> DVI cable, looked better but still not right. There is something I am missing.

At one point I could only choose between 2 picture modes, standard and 1 other. Now I have all of them, movie, standard etc. But I can't get it crystal clear.

This is driving me nuts. I am playing around with the CCC settings as well and nothing.

Haven't worked with one.

But Source Name, somewhere in the menu, must be changed to "HDMI1 → DVI/PC".

Have you done this crucial bit? Setting the TV to PC mode?

Yip done that!

Ok so figured out the HDMI has to be in the first slot, then it sets it to PC mode, but still not crystal clear.

What isn't crystal clear?

From what viewing distance?

Have you read the thread I suggested you read? http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/346013-Anybody-bought-the-LA32D550

Have you set up your graphics card correctly?

Thanks was actually looking for those pics yesterday.

Mine looks the same. My viewing distance is about 1m. I guess more would be better.

What is your sharpness set to? Try changing it from 0-100 to see what effect it has.

Yeah I have it set on about 70.

70 is way too high, so that might be your problem.

Also google "UNxxD5000 user thread AV Forum", should take you to lots of info on D5000 Series and you can register and ask them if the info isn't already there.

If the D550 can do it, I'm sure the D5000 can.

Yeah I am pretty sure the quality is the same as the D550.

I am maybe being a little anal retentive (at least thats what my wife says) :p

You could be. For example, your current signature, due to its size, does not appear as smooth as larger/standard forum fonts. So you might need to get used to really small text (like size 6 - 8 in Word, lol) not appearing as smooth. If that makes sense.

Fak off :D :p
