What do you think about tearing down Lenin statues in Russia?

A hunk of concrete or metal does not turn the subject into an idol. It's a part of history. Like books. We don't burn books. And we shouldn't tear down statues. It is however important to teach people about history. It reminds us of the standards of the past, and how far forward we have come.

But I understand the need to create safe spaces. So I now think that statues shouldn't be erected.

So your answer is...?

Many on the Western left would secretly love to live under a Taliban regime. No dissent allowed, society frightfully earnest, reporting people who don't comply with the rules, no real fun allowed etc.
Yep and Trump represents exactly that for you lot. You're not supposed to say the quiet things out loud Chris.

They should have remained up to remind them of their past. Like I just said. How is that unclear?

That wasn't unclear but your first answer was. But yeah, I disagree 100%. Even if I don't disagree with you, it doesn't matter. New generations will discard the relics of former generations. These are emblems of an evil period of history, and if the government won't remove them peacefully, the people will do it forcefully. Many of the Confederate statues had years of opportunities to be moved to museums or other such places, and petitions, and everything else. There aren't any more statues of Hitler in Berlin, for a good reason.

Ultimately people take the law into their own hands. And those people aren't always the most informed - I've seen the cases where they vandalized statues of people who were anti-abolitionists.

oh really?

so those you mentioned were also toppled by farce movements perpetuated by fake information.

sheesh, that blond gym bunny chick might have a point then, who knew?!
I'm sure the Levin fans said the same thing at the time those statues came down. Same with the King George fans. Etv

You're on the wrong side of history here bud and you're butthurt because your race and group identity is waning in power and importance. Shem.

So you would advocate for statues of Zuma be erected in your neighborhood so that you can be reminded about how bad things were?

C'mon Em, c'mon

Imagine comparing a statue to a book.

When you start a sentence with "So", you should stop yourself right there.

Now, read slowly. Statues that have HISTORICAL RELEVANCE should not be torn down. Relocated? Fine. If a statue has historical relevance, how is that advocating for NEW statues to be erected?

C'mon Bender, c'mon.

I thought you were a little smarter than that.

Based on the premises of her argument, Neo-Nazis can erect a statue of Hitler and Himmler outside of Auschwitz, so when the Jewish ancestors of the people killed there visit, they are reminded of Hitler and his role in the Holocaust.

And you just manage to keep going even lower. Unsurprising.

Did you know one of the first book burnings by the Nazis, was of books about transgenderism.

I am sure they destroyed many historical things that didn't fit their ideological views. My opinion works both ways. Can you imagine!?

The Nazis had historical relevance
