Statues are a form of idolatry. Not history.
Germans are very aware of Hitler, the pain he caused. There are no statues in Germany of Hitler. Having his statue there would not raise any more awareness, but would become a shrine to the Neo-Nazis.
Money for statues should be spent on funding libraries and museums.

At their very basic root, they are a form of property. Either publicly owned or privately owned. Both of which you would probably agree with me are not up to being vandalized.

You treat the statues with religious reverence. You bestow value to them,elevating them to deity status, that they must not be harmed and must be respected and all those who disrespect them are to be scorned and punished.
So you confirm that statues don't offer any value for historical education and their value as such is somewhat meaningless.
