wrong genius if this was the case why did Maradonna criticise his game a few months ago ,saying he should learn to pass an not play for himself

so dont make up things that he has been Argentinas saviour ,when clearly he has not been ,if he was that important to argentina why would maradonna say that his team consitst of Monsterano :D and 10 others ;)

Actually come to think of it, who says he's actually been bad for England. His stats: 70 app, 14 Gls. Hardly poor considering that for most of his playing career for England, he has been used as a holding midfielder. he has also had many MOTM performances for England.

i have been saying the same thing for quite some time now ,gerrard has only recently been playing as an attacking midfielder under Cappelo ,who favors the same system that rafa employs ,so i dont know why people criticise Stevie for his england performances

Who the hell said he was Argentina's saviour? All i am saying is, he performs the same way irrespective of the team he plays in.

Got no idea where you got a hint of sarcasm in my post. It's quite clear that I'm for real. Have you watched Gerrard perform for England since 2000?
 
Yes i have. For a player like Gerrard how can 70 appearances with 14 goals NOT be POOR.

Lets look at this thread comparing the two players. I know that Messi is ahead of Gerrard in most aspects. Well, thats my opinion and the stats back it up.

As i said i used to be a MASSIVE Gerrard fan, not that much anymore. Still think he is great. Do i think he will be mentioned in the same breath as Best, Pele and Maradona?

NO!

Do i think Messi will? Of course!

People are already comparing every Messi performance with the legends of the game.
 
lol Gerrard is not a legend...

Messi still has a long road ahead how he deals with the years ahead will contribute to the title best in the world i.e Diego and Pele....

So far Messi has left behind ANY played in his skill, ability.

If he's injuries are behind him... then I don't think anyone can be compared to him for the next couple of years!

Well it's not poor. Like I said in my previous posts, Gerrard was mostly used as a holding midfielder.

Let's look at Xavi's record for his country Spain. Both players play in similar roles. His stats: App 69, Gls 8. Does that mean he has been poor for his country?
 
Xavi isnt rated as a goal scorer. His average is 2 goals per season.

So how can you compare a player who hardly scores to a player who scores often like Gerrard?

Again, I was talking about Gerrard's role for England (most of his career) as a holding midfielder.

If you watch Gerrard play for England, he doesnt play as good as he is expected. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to know this. All you need to do is watch him play.

Im sure we all have read 100's of articles on the Gerrard/Lampard debate.

If Gerrard was so great he would shine in the England squad, we all know this is not the case.

Gerrard has hardly ever played in his natural position. How would Messi perform if he was asked to play in a position that he never plays in for his club?

Anyways my point was that even though Argentina have Messi(who can go past 6 players), they are still not winning anything. One man doen't make a team.
 
First season Messi has been injury free.

Gerrard is a class act but comparing him to Messi is foolish. Same like comparing C Ronaldo to Messi.

Messi is the best natural attacking footballer in the world. The likes of which we haven't seen since the heady days of Maradonna, Pele, Jordi Cruyff and Marco Van Basten to name a few. He's a footballing genius!

Gerrard has become a great player with the impetus of Benitez his manager giving him the free ranging role we're seeing him excel in at Liverpool. He's certainly the best attacking midfielder England have produced in a long time!

The England football side just flatters to deceive with some of the most over-rated footballers in the world. I clump Rio Ferdinand, Ledley King, Ashly Cole, David Beckham and Steve Downing in the category of over-rated BTW.

I hope Gerrard wins the PFA Player Of The Year award for his great season.

The question should be, how will Gerrard and Messi play together in the same team? I wouldn't want to be in that defence :(

A World XI with Messi and Gerrard will be a great side even for exhibition purposes :D
