getting another satellite for extra view

Do you need 2 active smartcards to run xtraview? I have an old 1110 just lying here, but with no active smartcard.

As long as your DSD1110 has the latest smartcard version (even if inactive), you can activate it on-line with your DSTV account on their website, www.dstv.com - by using the DSTV Xtraview Activation menu options, once you have first registered both decoders.

Worked seamlessly for me when I set up XtraView for a family member in December, using a HD PVR2P and the new HD SingleView decoder.

All I had to get was a 2 x 4 Multi-switch (Ellies make a kit which also includes additional F-connector cables) to connect the Dual LNB feed to both the PVR2P (in the lounge) and also to the HD SV decoder (in the bedroom).

As there was already a RF cable there (for the second TV) - this was used for the 'heartbeat' signal, and an additional LNB cable was routed from one of the multi-switch outputs to the HD SV decoder.

(Make sure that any splitters / set-back amplifiers in the RF chain have the DC bypass feature - this is required for the heartbeat signal to be fed to an additional decoder via RF).

Fantastic, thank you guys very much!
the multi switch didnt work that well for me, so bought a quad lnb on bidorbuy for around R300 - 2 cables from lnb to pvr, one cable to 1110 and one cable between each decoder rf in to out for the heartbeat and bobs your uncle

Yes, I'm thinking the same thing. I have done the upgrade van SD to PVR myself a while back with a twin lnb. I have my RF out currently running into another room's tv as an input via the tv-link eye thing, so my heartbeat cable is already up and running.
