So asked around how much it would cost to get extra view , currently have the new HD decoder , I find out that it will cost nearly 2K to install extra view, included is another decoder, twin LNB etc. Could I get decoder with installation and link them? I don't mind having two dishes

A qucik question I see in the back of the decoder there are a "RF In" and "RF Out" ports to connect Xtraview I need connect my "RF out" of my primary decoder to the "RF In" of my secondary directly?

Pretty much, there is a setting on the decoder for which in/output to use, but I think that is the default

I think if i remember correctly when i did my last extra view setup in May last year it now works RF in to RF in, or RF out to RF out.

It will work. My guess is you have a 60cm dish currently and will be adding one more, right? I would rather ask the installer to install a 90cm dish with Quad LNB. The 90cm dish will give you a much better signal from my experience. It might cost a bit more for the quad and 90cm, but it is the way to go. My2c.

On some of the decoders, more the older ones, if you set the comms port to RF IN, then the TV Link is disabled. If you're not using a TV link, then don't worry about it.

The cost install Xtraview with a decoder is around R1900, I want to get a new decoder with free installation which will cost me R599 then link the two decoders

The 599 is on condition you activate a subscription on the new decoder I think...

if get 2 dishes and 2 decoders whit extra view must those 2 be connected somehow?

lets one in the grannyflat in the back then in the main house, but its to far to run cables

can u set it up individually and use it,or must they be physically connected?

XtraView requires a RF OUT / RF IN physical connection to the 2 decoders - as one is set as the Primary - it sends out a 'heart-beat' signal to the Secondary decoder - to maintain the XtraView pairing between them.

If you have two separate dishes and two separate 'NON linked' decoders - then you will have to pay 2 x Premium subscriptions. - one for each decoder.

It is only when the two decoders are linked via RF that you can enable XtraView and only have to pay the additional monthly access fee (it covers both XtraView & PVR access options).

why do you want an extra dish, I dont understand the need for the second dish?

whats too far? you need to run a cable for the heartbeat - mine is around 25 metres.
probably going to cancel soon, **** all on tv and just got decent internet

So are you saying that 2 decoders on 2 different dishes cannot be be connected even if it's physical connected via the RF plugs?

No, his saying that if you don't link the decoders, you will be double charged. To answer your question though, you can connect the 2 even though the decoders are on different dishes and in different rooms.

no you can, it makes no difference where the decoder gets the signal from as long as you have the heartbeat cable and xtraview setup

Do you need 2 active smartcards to run xtraview? I have an old 1110 just lying here, but with no active smartcard.
