Getting better sleep

What’s your bed like?
I got a new bed recently and that’s made a noticeable difference in how I sleep.

Well I bought these at dischem... work well on hot nights...I even use the cold gel side in winter too.

Go to sleep when you are tired.

This whole going to bed on an exact schedule nonsense is why people have so much trouble sleeping properly.

Exhaust yourself and you’ll have no issues sleeping and you body will tell you when it wants to, no clocks and timers and other kak required.

Pointless staring at the ceiling for hours and then wondering why you didn’t sleep well.

And it goes without saying that a good mattress and pillow works wonders.

Cloud Nine all the way.

Skip all this spring loaded pocket coil kak and get yourself a properly firm but weight relevant mattress.

Memre pillows (Makro or Takealot) also great.

20% off all beds and free delivery, a solid deal considering how stingy walk-in bed shops typically are :

Excellent advice. Catch you guys later.

Sale ends tomorrow!!
Turns out that sale was a load of sht, it was 20% off the “retail“ price which means just about no discount.
Initially I was miffed because I ordered a mattress just 2 days before that on their Valentines 10% off promo but that was 10% off the ”sale” price so actually pretty decent. Dialabed is weird, if you order off the website they typically run a 5% off sale price and free delivery vs in store no discount and R450 delivery fee.

Anybody got a bedroom air purifier? Has it improved your sleep quality?

Got one of these in a desperate attempt to try anything & everything to improve my sleep during a rough patch. Didn't notice any real improvement in sleep. However for people with allergies, possible mold in the house or living in areas with bad air quality it's probably worth it.

I'm going to have to get one of these things I think. Since moving up north, the colder air has really screwed over my sinuses and many mornings I wake up feeling like crap because of it.

In honour of the sudden 1-year-and-1-day resurrection of this thread, please tell us:

What methods got you out of the rough patch?
Eh, I dunno. Diet & exercise were already fine, although I've heard people recommend keeping a food journal for a few weeks and seeing if there's any correlation between certain foods and bad sleep. Might still try this.

Not really sure what caused that rough period - life, stress, something in the air...I just moved through it without being able to point to anything in particular I did. Partly the body gets used to it and freaks out less. Partly you're doing a bunch of stuff to improve sleep (phone off early, no stimulants later in the day, keep the bedroom tidy, listen to binaural / relaxing stuff before bed, magnesium & sleep supplements, quick mediation etc.) that eventually your sleep does kinda improve.

Still have the occasional rough patch but not as destabilizing as it was.

Why is that?

"Amongst its other valuable nutrients, garlic contains zinc and high concentrations of sulfurous compounds like allicin, which naturally promote relaxation, helping you fall asleep faster."
Well I don't have much of a sleeping problem, but occasionally did struggle. Dr then said I must check if it is days that I had garlic and Bobs your uncle, that was the problem. I am sure it does not affect everyone but it is easy to check and cut out if you find it a problem. And no I still eat garlic occasionally, just not often.
