Getting better sleep

Think there's two things happening: Allergic reaction to something and elevated cortisol or similar that inhibits falling back to sleep.

Went for allergy skin prick test last week...quite a high response to dust mites and mold spores. Mold I don't suspect is the culprit as the place is generally well ventilated and never noticed anything on the walls and besides there's an air purifier running.

Dust mites...ordered some new pillows and pillow covers to try keep them free of dust mites. The pillow cover:

Also some spray and washing additive to reduce effects of allergens.

Will look at a new mattress later and also put a full mattress protector around it, something like this:

Just going to vacuum twice a week and wash bedding once a week and see if it helps improve my sleep. Also move my bed and mop after the vacuum as well.

Supplements: Phosphatidyl Serine seems to help with getting back to sleep quicker. I fall asleep fine but wake up early morning and lie awake. When taking this I still wake up, but going back to sleep happens much quicker. Taking one pill close to bedtime.

What washing powder/liquid do you use?

Fairly good chance you are allergic to the scents and stuff in the washing powder itself which means washing once a week can make it worse.

Use a natural product but maybe I just leave out the laundry liquid for the regular washes.

Edit: tl;dr you've been warned.

Detour from the cannabis thread for anyone interested. For the last few months I've been feeling like my sleep has been really bad. Get to sleep fine but am waking up with a heavy tired sensation behind my eyes, not feeling rested, been in a kak mood during the day, work been suffering. I'll usually wake a few times to piss but it's often accompanied by a kind of restlessness and I'll often toss and turn after getting back into bed and lie there for a while before falling back to sleep. All said - I don't feel like I'm awake the whole night, but I feel tired as if I was awake for a lot of the night.

Have done the usual:

No caffeine late in day
No blue light / phones etc. before bed
Exercise
Eat well
Magnesium supplements (various forms, currently on glycinate, haven't tried threonate)
etc.

Went for blood test recently - everything checks out fine, minor allergy (hayfever) markers found but I don't have hayfever symptoms so doubt (for now) that this is the cause of the tiredness.

Enter CBD oil. I don't like the next day effects of weed and I feel it with CBD so I've been hesitant to try again. Picked up 3 different bottles (CBN+CBD, CBG+CBG, high Sativa to CBD 12:1). First night with the CBN+CBD oil I had good sleep (the restlessness was gone and replaced with a kind of warm comfort so falling asleep again was much easier) but then I had the usual next day hangover feeling which at this point is almost preferable to the tiredness). Going to spend a week playing around with dose on the CBN+CBD before trying one of the other oils.

However - given how I feel the next day I don't feel like CBD or any cannabis solution will be long-term but it might be enough short-term to at least help break the waking up habit.

So at the moment before bed:

Magnesium Glycinate
L-Theanine
2-3 drops CBN+CBD
Have also cut out caffeine and chocolate completely since last week.

I've seen quite a few reports of elevated cortisol keeping people awake during the early morning. Might be this. Though it might also be an inflammation issue but that's just a stab in the dark, blood tests also returned no inflammation issues.

Anyway. Interested to hear from anyone else dealing with sleep issues what helped.

Have you tried consuming various forms of chickpees?

Good stuff. We use their products as well but the big tub with the powder instead.
Ja I love that orange smell. But thinking about the washing so often especially now in winter might be a mission getting it dry. Think I'll maybe look at changing the vacuum / mopping more often & wiping surfaces down with a wet cloth. Maybe a robovac just to keep dust levels down a bit more. Need to find the robovac recommendations thread...

The more you use clonazepam the more youll need it and thats when itll become an additiction. Though cant argue with you on the sleep

Out of a list of about 20 medications and supplements I've taken over the years for sleep, that's been the only thing that allows me to get to bed at a reasonable time and sleep the whole night without feeling groggy the next day. In my case, my doc prescribed it because I had an infection somewhere, which my doc suspected could be lymphoma, which caused quite a bit of anxiety going back and forth for various tests and scans...

Xiaomi X20+ no need to look any further.

A couple of glasses of wine and 1mg of Clonazepam does wonders for a good night's sleep.
Lucky you. I tried sleeping pill only couple of times but next day is not so lekker even if it does knock me out to sleep.

Yeah, that's been my biggest issue with over the counter sleep aids, especially melatonin and antihistamines such as promethazine; they don't help me get to sleep, I wake up multiple times, and then can't get back to sleep. By the time the sun comes up, I can barely function without copious amounts of coffee, so I prefer not to take them. Benzodiazepines do work well for me without making me feel groggy, but they require a script, so when I do get them, I try and make them last as long as possible. Benzos should only really be used as a last line option though, as they can be extremely addictive and potentially cause even more issues if you take them daily, so I take them infrequently and only at times when I really need to take them, maybe 2-3 times a month at most.

Ja doctor has prescribed sleep meds but I'm not really interested as it's not sustainable. I'd rather go this long route of trying to figure it out little by little.

I think that's the best approach. I've kind of given up though and have just accepted that I'm a lost cause :X3:

I had colic as a baby and didn't sleep, I have ADHD, so I was on ritalin in my early teens and didn't sleep. Couldn't sleep after I started my first job in my late teens. Couldn't sleep in my 20s, tried strict keto and 2-3 hours of exercise a day, tried cutting out all alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and anything else I might have been taking for three months - made no difference!

try to learn to relax the muscles. Will take some time but you should be able to learn it if you using those meds. Once all the muscles are relaxed you will fall asleep

So. Is the kratom/cannabis vapes that you craft yourself not working anymore?

Still works! I've just cut down a lot since I finally got my arse into gear and saw a psychiatrist two months ago to get my ADHD treated, because I'm thinking of getting back into a full-time IT job again, which has been a bit daunting. Everything has become kak expensive, including making vape oil. Kratom works great for pain management, in my case, for kidney stones, but didn't help with sleep, unfortunately...

BTW, how's your sleep these days, I meant to ask in the other thread if you think an air purifier would help.
Still patchy. Fall asleep fine but then wake up early hours and from there sleep isn't great but...still trying things. Might go to sleep clinic soon and get one of the wear-at-home devices just to check for sleep apnea though I don't think it's that. My mom has warned me of going down a rabbit hole as she has bad sleep and her dad slept badly as well.

The air purifier didn't help directly with sleep but it's still something I use during the night & will continue to use. Nice having clean air in the room and I also I slip into breathing through my mouth during the night so bypassing the filtration hairs in the nose it's nice knowing the air is at least cleaner.

Dude have you tried full spectrum/THC 20mg? CBD is just crap you might as well drink sunflower oil.
I can't use cannabis products. I feel it the next day no matter what I use so that's not really an option. Had a full spectrum THC that I gave away along with the CBD.

Where can you get that from and is it in pills or drops?
This is one I tried:

Always thought sleep apnea was a mostly overweight person or snoring person thing. None of those apply and yet it seems like I've got sleep apnea. Went for an overnight sleep study. Let's see what comes of this. Be nice to stop guessing and trying 100 things.
