Getting Closer

Just more rubbish from Telscum...

Ordered ADSL on 14 November, and cancelled the order on 23 January, since I'll be moving before they actually get to install it! ;)

The only thing Beelders can't yet guarantee is that it will be able to provide an ADSL line in what customers could consider a reasonable time frame.

That's just great!

Forget Telkom Closer, I want Neotel Further ;)

During normal Hours:

For a normal phone line, a local call is charged at 0,00634c/sec = 38c /minute minimum charge 59.4c.
http://www.telkom.co.za/common/pricelist/prices/local/custtomer_to_automatic_exh.html

Closer 1 charges 68c per minute with a minimum call charge of 68c.
http://www.telkom.co.za/athome/services/closer/optionone.html

Similar for Closer 2

U can save with the various Closer plans, but your usage has to fit certain patterns in order to benefit... otherwise forget it!

I plan on cancelling Closer Option 2 plus the 150 internet hours ASAP. Want to use up my 150 internet hours before I do that though, cause they say no refunds on the internet hrs... [Edit: Telkom you moronic frakkers!] Once cancelled I will re-apply for DSL384 *sigh*

Our daytime calls are in the region of R80 per month, because of the 68c per min charge. I dont need the offpeak free calls anymore, and with wanting to get ADSL soon, I wont need the internet hours.

My objective is constantly to give them as little of our hard earned money as possible. It's hard work, and from a rands and cents perspective, not worth the grief. It's purely for reasons of principle that I keep fighting them...

R145 per month for Closer Option 2...hmm... at that price they should offer free local calls 24/7 or at least reduce peak call rates. Not hike them to 68c per min!!

U can bet the beancounters worked out that what they lose on free off-peak calls they gain on peak calls and the R45 extra they charge for Closer 2. Thieving b@stids...

Though the addition of WiMax - from April this year - will alleviate the problem to some extent, Beelders says wireless won't give you the capability for IPTV and other value added services.

I'm confused. Is Mr Beelders saying that there is no such thing as WiMax IPTV?

We hardly use our phone during the day since nobody is at home at that time but the bulk of our account consists of dialup costs. So closer 2 with 75/150 hours fits us best. Waitin for the next account to come to see if we really save. But dont you guys think it'd be a whole lot better if closer 3 (maybe closer 2) included dsl line rental too? Closer 3 at R300pm with NO dsl line rental included seems like a rip off.

R300 option is a rip off, though I think the R145 option is good as u r only paying R50 odd for free weekend and evening calls.

I know it is not great and I am not praising Telkom, but it is better than it was before with no free calls.

And whats the point of having it up to an hour per call before it starts charging? If its free unlimited off peak local then you should be able to speak on the phone for as long as you want without dropping the call..

All providers even overseas state that, so that you do not hog the line.

Check the day time call rates - they were more expensive than normal rates the last time I checked.

Depending when you call.the closer plans are all crap.If you call mostly after 7 (we everyone is home) then infinicall saves you way more money.Do the maths.

not telkom or chinese maths!

bs!!

telkom doesnt listen "Beelders says Telkom's looking forward to customers being able to compare it to another fixed line operator rather than use unrealistic comparisons to countries such as China, which has monstrous economies of scale" yes thats china does what about zimbabwe a country that has no economy, and there prices are much cheaper!!!!! so dont come with that bull **** telkom, ur scared of neotel!!! soon as they launch im with them

Really, if Telkom believes Closer is value for money, they are hopeless.
It may not be value for money in comparison to other countries but it is definitely cheaper then it was without closer. At least for me. It's a baby step in the right direction.

Closer to the devil

Sure it would be better... it would also be better if money grew on trees :D

This is Papi's customer-centricity at work.
You can take the Closer Options as is, or you can go jump off a cliff. The beauty of choice

<rant> They really are giving a big 'up yours' to the less affluent clients. Not everyone can afford to fork out R145 or R300 on some stupid Closer plan... oh, and for dialing your ISP, thats extra

Someone earning minimum wage can't imagine being committed to that kind of monthly expense, just to make phone calls! Of course, out of necessity, they may have to resort to prepaid cell calls and then, oh, what a surprise, Telkon scores again via their golden child, Vodacon  </rant>
