Getting Fiber

So i get a sms saying someone will contact me icw the fiber upgrade about 5 days ago.
I get a call today saying they will arrange a day in the next 7 days to do the fiber install and it's for free.

I'm currently on ADSL 4Mbps as I cannot get reliable faster and they giving me 10Mbps for 60 days as a trial. They also giving a modem.

What happens to my landline? Anyone know? I know ADSL will be replaced but the landline?

nothing will change on the landline. It will just run over fibre and not copper, but on your side it will stay the same

Who is installing your fibre? What package are you taking?

Depends on whether you are subscribed and using the landline voice service ......
I would keep it in place , maybe even keep the ADSL connection for a while .... as a backup ..... and to play with undertaking comparison tests.

Yip you right fibre

Telkom as far as I am aware, not taking a package they just switching me over from my 4Mbps 10gig data to fibre, with the first 60days @ 10Mbps.
 
You don't have to keep the landline do you?

Fibre is "naked" surely?

My understanding is that Telkom fibre is a naked product - on their website it doesn't say it includes a voice line or requires one. There is a voice option at an extra 189pm. Its R699 for 10Mbps 50GB Softcap their cheapest option :( so sad other providers are so much cheaper. Perhaps when they upgrade you from copper it's included as you pay it anyways sorry not 100% sure *shrug*

Well got 2 calls today saying they are installing tomorrow......................not holding my breath though.
 
Well, took longer than expected as the fibre cable guys didn't do their work correctly. But all sorted and fibre is up and running with VoIP.

Now to check my account to see if I was debited for anything "extra".

Luckily ALL my calls are recorded including cell.
 
So while messing around and getting kicked out of my game on Steam(Connection to Steam lost) every 5-10min I tried this to switch to my backup data on Afrihost - it won't connect, is there something I am missing here?
Update OK so I was using my free 1gig Afrihost account and then tried my normal Afrihost account and I could connect to Internet.

Still getting "game timed out" at 5min on gaming in steam all the time??

Maybe try get a friend to come over and see if he has a similar experience when he's connected to your internet?
 
Nope it was the Router, Netgear, they replaced with Aztech and seems fine now.
 
On the topic of new fibre installations

I received an SMS from Telkom with my 200GB+100mbps account details and email address. How long till telkom SMS me an installation date?

Anyone know what the the turn around time is between the two SMS's?

Should be about 2 - 4 days maximum. That's at least how long it took when I received mine, if I recall correctly :)
 
Spot on, Telkom are efficient in this respect. I received account information 19 May.

I received a call to book installation this week Thursday or Friday.

100mbps in coming :D
 
So, they came and laid fibre at Eco Park State (Centurion) today. Think it was Telkom because they had little cardboard signs advertising for it.

I want to get it but I don't want a 24 month contract. A 20mb line is fine, any suggestions for alternatives. Can WebAfrica possibly do it? Don't mind a cap if it's decent.
