got my playbook from GameHyper in Boksburg (011) 823 3532 [email protected]
Blackberry playbooks
16GB R7700
32GB R8100
64GB R10000

Will keep you updated....:)

Do they also come with free internet (BIS)?

the playbook is perhaps the most rushed tablet in existence. half the software doesnt work and you have to "tether" with your blackberry phone (assuming you have one) to do anything really. And the promised Android runtime... Not there.

They ****ing crazy at those prices, if it had its own sim support maybe, but i do have a berry and will use the teather but to pay so much for so little.
Fine i will never buy a kakpad, i do have standards and i will not buy an overpriced play toy, but the prices charging for it here is crazy you get it overseas for less than R3500

R7700 for a 16GB model? BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

For that price I might as well get an iPad 2

Even though i do own a Blackberry and this tablet would be a good "opportunity" to lock me into the BB-family of products, but seriously , not a chance at that price. This is where i buy an iPad 2 instead.

I said it when the Galaxy Tab came out, at similar prices [while the Ipad 1 was dropping to R5k ] , and i'll say it again. Apple got the premium product here, the rest are suppose to beat them on price at LEAST , then we can discuss whether their App store and OS are even worth it.

Ridiculously expensive for such an underwhelming device. R10,000 equates to paying R2,000 per useful app in the Blackberry App World... :-)

Spoke to the guy, on 4 of them 64gb most likely at R8800. Let's wait and see.. Will update..once I got this in my hand

I've been waiting for it for months - but not at that price!

Another worry would be Vodacom BIS performance, which isn't always the greatest or fastest :/

Has anyone seen the screen? I think iPad screen is awesome ... Crisp and bright ... And wondering about Playbook screen

+1 waiting for 3g version

Testimony to that. Seems RIM enjoys playing catch-up, and in doing so, there Dev team battle to deliver. Their devices all suffer from this business model.

Insanely overpriced, the only reason BB's are still marketable is because of BIS, but still, for that price anyone could get an Ipad 2 and a few thousand GIGs of data.

Few thousand gig would be an extreme exaggeration, the reviews are good and the price problem is South African customs, not RIM. in USA the playbook is dollar for dollar the same as the ipad counterpart.
I will be waiting for my ipad, personally i do not want the 3G version, that's only really useful to those who do not already own a blackberry, i certainly do not want my mails going to 2 different devices, not to mention having BBM on 2 separate devices with 2 desperate pin numbers m that's just going to cause confusion.

If you look overseas, the ipad2 1gb wifi and the playbook 16gb wifi are both $499, yet when it gets to south africa the government adds R3300 to the price so they can pay for their prostitutes and garlic.
The Android support has already been tested as working, they advertised it as limited support, FULL support will only be achieved by Q4 this year with OS7, i read 3 reviews, 1 being with crackberry who have all said that android apps work, forgot which ones.

I have an upgrade due in July so i will get my playbook then, most of the expected launch bugs should be sorted out by then.

Prone to exaggeration? Sure it's more here but not R3300 more. The $499 iPad2 16GB is R4399 here inclusive of VAT (where as the US price excludes any sales tax).

Yes and the playbook 16gb is also $499 @ R7699, so 7699 - 4399 = 3300. Weather or not US includes or excludes the tax the selling price on both units is $499, but in SA the ipad2 is 4399 and the playbook is 7699, that's the point i am bringing across and that's where the R3300 price difference comes in.

I'll wait for the Playbook till all problems are sorted out. Luckily I have a BB Torch and Galaxy Tab to keep me busy till then.

If these are as crap as their phones then I don't foresee this going very far.

O and those prices? Seriously? You can't help but lol.

There's nothing wrong with a BB - other that they lack the juvenile gadgets and gimmicks of iOS and Android.
