Ghostbusters 2016 - reboot

GHOSTBUSTERS Banned in China, But Not For THAT Reason

If your life has been completely ruined by the mere idea of four woman fighting ghosts, then we have just the place for you to move to in an effort to save your childhood: China. Because the new, all-female led Ghostbusters reboot won’t be getting a release in the second largest market in the world, though it has nothing to do with some silly notion about the sanctity of the past.

The Hollywood Reporter states that their contacts in the country have told them the government has denied Sony’s request to release the film there because they do not think there is enough interest in it from Chinese citizens, citing the lack of people that ever saw the first two movies in the franchise. (The original never had a theatrical release there either.)

This denial was, apparently, not unexpected, but for an entirely different reason: movies pertaining to the supernatural have been banned in the past by the Chinese government, as official censorship guidelines prohibit movies that “promote cults or superstition” to their audiences. The listing for this new Ghostbusters didn’t even use the word “ghost” in the title over there (Super Power Dare Die Team isn’t quite as pithy as Ghostbusters), in an attempt to evade that problem, but it looks like that didn’t matter in the end.

It won't though, possibly might even make it worse.

I have no problem with an all-female cast - if it is done as some sort of original IP. Taking a classic and butchering it just for the sake of gender equality, and then rubbing it in everyone's faces by constantly having a go at men, is not going to go down well.

The amount of political correctness on TV and the big screen these days is almost sickening. It seems like everyone must either be black, gay or a woman - bonus points if you can manage to merge the 3. And the sad thing is that going overboard with it actually works against the causes of these people...

It's why I couldn't watch Jessica Jones past the first episode. If the only white males in a series are weak or evil you're trying to make a point.

Or perhaps they just cast the best people for the role irrespective of colour...

How we've lost the ability to criticize Ghostbusters

How internet hate crushed useful discussion of an upcoming film

Paul Feig's new Ghostbusters movie comes out this weekend, and I'm not really excited about it. This movie has been at the center of a nasty political fight on Twitter for months and, at this point, that controversy has overwhelmed the discussion of Ghostbusters as a work of art or entertainment.

Many complaints about Ghostbusters are unquestionably misogynist

The Ghostbusters franchise, which starred four men in its first two films, has been rebooted with a cast of four women. Some fans of the original movies are unhappy about the reboot, as are activists, from movements like GamerGate and the alt-right, who believe the film's casting decision is evidence that "social justice warriors" have corrupted geek culture with progressive politics.

The anti-Ghostbusters backlash brewed for months in the corners of the Internet frequented by these factions; places like the KotakuInAction subreddit and on Breitbart's tech vertical, but the Ghostbusters haters gained a lot of mainstream media attention in May when the film's first trailer became the most disliked video in the history of YouTube...

Somehow, I don't think this is going to turn into a new franchise for Sony...

I wouldn't mind that Stay Puft Marshmellow man on my desk.

Huh? But... Luke Cage is black. Besides I do not remember a weak white male in the series? Not to mention that Kilgrave was exceptionally well cast by the producers, David Tennant nailed the villain role, though they could had done more with the character.

Cant believe they destroyed Ghostbusters like this. No problem with female actresses, but certain movies you just dont mess with. This was one of them. Imagine, a remake of BadBoys and it becomes BadGirls, eish!
