Giganews

It works and it doesnt. Seems that no matter what, when using Grabit, it uses my international account and therefore rapes it. The local is not being used. Wierd

Damn that is weird, is that for SAIX? There's a localroutes.dat file in the RouteSentry install folder, you could always just edit that and add the news server IP range to it.

You lost me. How would I do that?

In your program files folder go to the routesentry folder, right click on localroutes.dat and click edit which'll open it in notepad. Then if its the SAIX news server you want to go over your local account add this line:

196.43.42.0,255.255.255.0

They seem to be in sequence so just put it in in the right position and hopefully it'll work. :)

Oh I thought that due to them mirroring Giganews, you could use the local only and get that speed using news.axxess.co.za

That's because SAIX does NOT mirror Giganews. The content is merely provided by (bought from) Giganews. There is no mirroring. Axxess has it wrong.

I have to agree with you. What a load of crap. Sure the international SAIX account is great however it is madly expensive. This local only SAIX is absolutely rubbish. Been on for hours and its still saying downloading 0%
Do you need to put in your ADSL account username and password for this to work?

It has this problem with nntp, your local connection HAS to connect before your international connection for some reason.

Anyway make sure that the options to automatically reconnect are not checked, then manually connect your local one first and then your international one, press the button to set up the routes, and see if that works. If it does, you can enable the option to auto reconnect again then press the button to save the changes.

what are you proving? you said you had an international Giganews account? well that will download very quickly yes using your international connection+bandwidth. Using SAIX with local only and no giganews account will be a bit slower

Ok let me try explain.
I pulled a file from newshost.za. I used grabit and was downloading it on my international / local AXXESS account.
It was going at about 400-500k.

I then switched off that account and used the local onlhy AXXESS SAIX account and it is now downloading at 0k.
So what does this tell you? Surely it is all local data anyway so the speed should be the same no??

Seems the local only account is crap.
Am I wrong about this?

It looks like your news reader is configured to use the Giganews server and login. In which case it will use international bandwidth. Configure your reader to use news.saix.net (and make sure the files in your batch are set to download from news.saix) with no login, that should fix it chop chop.

Nope. My news server (only have one) is news.axxess.co.za and does not make one difference. As soon as i enable the international, it flies, on local only, it does sweet nothing. Even if I try the Saix.net. No difference. The local only AXXESS sucks.

Interesting.

Are you using routesentry?
