Gigs.co.za

Never heard of it. Don't really see any amazing prices there. Why would you want to use them?

Did you even look at pricing?

384 Kb/s Uncapped

* ADSL line rental included
* Free router
* Free router setup
* Free telephonic support
* Month-to-month-contract
* Torrents allowed
* p2p allowed
* Unshaped

I think that is pretty damn good, line rental included, free router and unshaped. Looks damn good to me.

I don't use 384k.... I use real broadband.

How does that compare to other uncapped offerings on the market? Is it the cheapest?

Not everyone can afford a 4 meg line with 4 meg uncapped though, so for the 384 and 512 guys this looks like a very decent offering, it is unshaped they say so it would be worth checking out for the 384 guys who are moaning about mweb perhaps.

Actually cheaper than mweb.

Maybe not be the cheapest but it is unshaped so the pricing is insane by the looks of it.

If it was up to me I would go with Mweb for R9 more a month than trust some unknown company.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, not such a bad price if you look at what you get, and plus it's on a month to month basis too which is handy.
I think it's a real good choice for a 384k user (such as myself...cant afford 4mg).

Well give it a bash dude and let us know your experience, always nice to support the under dog and there are quite a few peeps unhappy with mweb 384.

This is just another version of Cybersmart.

Yeah is it good or bad? I might give them a go, just got to find out if it's possible to terminate my Telkom contract (we renewed a 2 year contract begining of last year i think). Just a quick question, ive got a member of the family using a Telkom email account, if i switch ISP's is there any way she can keep it?

Cant say much Killadoob, although I see quite a few threads on them. What I think is quite interesting is the fact that Cybersmart themselves don't offer an uncapped service. I think they might be testing out service delivery through these "other" but related ISPs. That way if something goes horribly wrong they don't lose face. Imagine Afrihost tested their uncapped through another business, they could have easily dodged a bullet to their own reputation.

If you have a look at the gigs.co.za website, it's very lite. There's not much of anything, so it really looks like a quickly put together business with no existing reputation to speak of.

Just my thoughts though. If you're brave and don't mind strapping yourself in for a bit of a ride, I'd give it a go and let the rest of us know :)

If telkom is anything like other ISPs they will allow you to keep the email address but charge you an email hosting fee which could be anywhere around R50-R100 p/m. It's been said on this forum that that is one of the small catches ISPs can use to keep you with them for a VERY long time, most people are unwilling to commit to changing it so they just keep on using the ISPs services.

^: My thoughts exactly. Unless it is like a "loan" router....
Although, this is very similar to the topic to the one about http://wazzup.co.za/ and they did end up legit... maybe... before they... "sold out"... -_-

Now why would Cybersmart hide behind another name when offering this? Do they know the service is going to suck?

Everybody is obsessed with unshaped. What is unshaped without a good contention ratio?????
I predict that a lot of ISP's will attempt to sell "Unshaped" packages at deep discount and attention will shift to contention ratios.

This site looks like a rush job...
its all too generic and the kind of thing that can be shut down quickly if needed..
payment in advance..i suppose most of the ISPs want that now..
contact is by one anonymous cell number and email..hhmm..

3GB top up is R207 vs Axxess unshaped 3GB top up at R57.

maybe worth it to wait a while or go with what you know!
