Can I configure a gmail account to receive the emails from my @telkomsa.net account. I've always used Windows Live essentials but I'm limited to that computer where it is installed.

Yep, personal (IMAP/POP) addresses can now be added to the Gmail Android App.

Login to gmail and add the details there...it'll check the telkom servers periodically.
