Hi there all,

Towards the beginning of next year, I'll look at selling my 7.0 GTI and getting one of the two options listed in the title.

The forum was a great help in terms of purchasing the GTI and I have decided to reach out again.

Any thoughts on the two options listed aside from the cosmetic differences between the two? Reliability, Things to be aware of re motor plan, resale etc.

Thanks all

Don't get the Audi then.

7.5 R my Guy. As you’ll see with your GTI, that resale value holds super strong for VW.

Personally, I would get the VW, the R is such a great package and most who have reviewed it put it ahead of the S3.

P.S. I am partially biased as I owned a 7R and miss it a lot.

I had a 7gti, now looking for an S3 4 pipe of course, personally feeling the Audi more than VW.

Those that are saying dont get an Audi, any reason why? Horror stories? I am actually looking at an Audi at the moment but its no hot hatch its more an everyday A6 3.0TDI V6, full dealer service history, 120 000km on the clock.

Drawback of the Audis is that every little thing is an optional extra.

Wasn't that the motor that required you to remove it from the car to change the cambelt/camchain?

7.5R definitely, if you were thinking of the rs3 then it's a different story.

It is mostly resale value, which is terrible on Audi's compared to their equivalent VW counterparts.

A6 is fine, that engine is bullet proof, same engine used in the amarok, touareg, and many other Vag products, the golf however is better than the audi.

I can't remember if the 3.0 V6 TDi is like this but the bulk of the bigger engined VW and Audi's are like this which is why they go to non-VW workshops for the work.

I did some research apparently it was the 2.0TDI from the 2008 until 2012 that had the timing chain issue.

But if this needs the timing chain that then not so worried I have a guy.

It seems these engine are mostly stress free
this particular on is the 160KW 500Nm so the engine is not stressed for power as the 180KW version although 20KW i doubt the engine will stress alot for that.

This has the S tronic gearbox which is AUDI rebranded DSG
Had a Golf 7 GTi with DSG no issues ran it up to 32 000km before selling it
Have a Golf 6 GTi with DSG no issues its currently on 101 000km

Do you have any horror stories about this box?

I see online alot of complaints about the Mechatronic failures but that happens on the Golf 7 as well. I see its about a R50 000.00 repair for the parts excluding labour
Hey seems better than my failed Ford Powershift......I make jokes but its to hide my pain :)
