Golf 7 TSI oil consumption

I had a 1.4 Tsi jetta, wonderful car. Never used any oil or water. But regularly had small things go wrong. Engine light on, idled weirdly, then engine light on again. Once refused to start. Weird grinding noise coming from it towards the end of it's year with me and I decided I've had enough, so I traded it in. I had 4 or 5 warranty claims on that car within a year.

That thing was actually bloody nice to drive, light on fuel, nippy. Not a single rattle, felt built like a brick sht house. Just couldn't handle all the small issues.

Current 2 cars, not a single warranty claim. Running well. Passat is now leaking water from somewhere when parked, but nothing when used. Must figure out wtf is going on there.
 
When oil enters the combustion chamber it lowers the octane rating and you get premature detonation.
Carbon build also not good. It cause heat spots and premature detonation.

The water level actually drops. It's as if the second I park it off for a day or so it starts leaking. If I use it everyday it loses next to nothing. Park it for a day or two, water level drops. So there is definitely a leak somewhere, but only when the car is cold. Really odd.
 
Maybe the water bottle has hairline cracks or the lid does not close fully?
Can a compression test locate the leak?
 
Good Luck on it, and i think it was not expensive, like R200 or something like that

Now that I think about it, it only drops to the bottom of the bottle and no further, it never empties completely. So it might actually be that the water bottle has a crack in it. But wouldn't it then leak regardless of the car being used?

Its "normal" actually. To achieve emmisions and effeciency targets. tolerences in engines are actually a little "looser" to prevent too much friction. result is oil burns more than older tech where they a bit tighter and better sealed. Problem is that this "looseness" varies engine to engine.

my twincharged motor was also in spec until piston 3 said bye bye.

Nope, not buying it, with modern materials and manufacturing techniques tolerances are far closer on modern day cars than they were on older cars. Especially when it comes to piston to cylinder wall clearances which if they are not 'tight' will destroy a motor fairly quickly.
 
It will probably be leaking when the coolant turns to gas form and escape it thru these cracks.

It should, how old is your car? Is it the old VW type bottle, the round one? those bottles aren't known for being problematic, it is the black ones that cracks.

I'm thinking something is cracked but sealed when the car is hot, and leaking when it's cold. It's becoming a pain in the butt as I've never had a car use either oil or water ever.

On Friday morning there was a small puddle where the car was parked overnight yes. Otherwise no. But I'll take it in tomorrow.
