Golf V GTi drivers

SOME SAY THAT FROM 2007 ONWARDS THE GOLF 5 HAS 160 KW , CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM THIS BECAUSE VW SAY THEY KNOW NOTHING OF THAT SORT .

From mid to late 2006 VW introduced the BWA spec engine. This replaced the AXX engine. Compression ratio was increased from 10:3 to 10:5. When compression ratio is increased, the engine loses power. To compensate for the loss in power, VW increased power by tweaking the ECU map. They overtweaked it a bit, which resulted in 166KW and around 320NM Torque.
VW deny all of this though. Many drivers who have dyno tuned the cars all admit to having around 166KW of power.

Howzit guys.

Saw this thread now only. I'm a Gti V driver with the factory upgrade (170kw / 355Nm).
Love every minute of driving it.

Was at the HHF08, and entered as well (all the way from Durbs). Didn't do as well as the other Gti's (15.6s), but found out DV had a leak. Booked in tomorrow for replacement.

But overall, a fantastic event, and had an awesome time. Looking forward to the next one.

Wow, you drove all the way from Durbs :)
Thats great. Yup, i regret not having a few runs.
Was an awesome event, except for the smell, think horses also run around Tarlton :o

The driver of the FRC Polo really knows how to launch his car well, and he has amazing reaction time. Coupled with his mods and the fact the Polo is light, makes for a super quick car. :)

Yip very important if you know how to take off!

Made it into a small breakaway for the weekend.

On the topic of the horses, it's natural meth for those boosted cars...:D:D:D

I only managed a best of 14.866.On that run I double shifted from 2nd to 4th.
As I manually shifted, the DSG decided to intervene and also shifted:( .Im sure I would have got a better time.
Anyway the day was good fun and the were some hot cars and babes there.

Heres some pic of my car at HHF 08.

Are you not able to disable the DSG if you want to shift manually? I know my Merc does that...

So last night, i finally decided to take the plunge and chip my car. I took it to a guy who does Unitronic in Durbs. Though he loaded his own maps which is customised for SA conditions called Perfomance chip tuning.

So anyways, i told he that my car wasnt running too good, he hooked up the VAG and made me drive around...everything seemed to be fine.

Anyways, got back to his workshop and he started loaded the software, all in all, it took around 15-20 mins. Took the car for a test drive and my god!! The difference is quite staggering! The car feels much more free and smooth, not to mention the responsiveness is quite amazing.

He loaded the Stage 2 map for me so that whenever i decide to do a downpipe, i dont have to take the car back to him.

Anyways, i hardly got to test the car out since the weather here in Durbs is really ****ty.

I'm struggling to take off on wet roads coz the car just spins. The guy who did my car says its probably running around 180kW+. Bring it on ST's!! :D :D

Even in manual mode, it will shift automatically at the limiter to protect the engine.

Thanks Bru.
He passed me just before we crossed the finish. :(

Damn, 180kW+, your car will take off like a plane.

My buddy bought a demo GTi on Friday. It came with DSG gearbox. The acceleration/handling is just so addictive. What also impresses me is the fuel economy at normal driving.

Congrads on getting chipped buddy. One very concerning thing though, loading a Stage 2 Map on a Stage 1 car!!!!! Not very smart if you ask me. ****I wonder if you haven't got into Limp mode as yet****

Bud, there is a reason why you need to do a DECAT downPipe in order to run stage 2, if there where no issues running Stage 2 map on a Stage 1 car then there really wound't be a need to brand them differently now would they?
Best you call Devan and ask him or confirm that he actaully did load a Stage 2 map on your car.

Nice Pics there Awesum. Car is looking great.
I want to get some eyelids for the car. Anyone knows where i can buy a set?
Cost?

Had some runs with an ST yesterday, Stock ST vs Stock GTI,
GTI in front for all of the runs. About 3 car lengths ahead :)
Rolling and from the line starts.
ST - 166KW and 320NM torque
GTI - '147'KW and '280'NM torque :)
