Golf V GTi drivers

dude, you are so right, a couple of cars, meaning 2 at max. lets recollect events, from Atterbury with you already a car in front, all the way to John Vorster, nice up hill, long straight, 2 cars ST vs GTI not bad I think and that was the point, you admitted it yourself.
Now for the Mods
Focus ST - Intake, Exhaust, Software and if i am not mistaken Intercooler upgrade (Evo's ST)
Golf GTi - BWA with stock K03s turbo and REVO Software ONLY (jojo)

thanks for playing mate:)

As for MJP vs Evo, man that will be murder on the dance floor, for Evo that is.

G5GTI05 is wondering if all the GTI Drivers have been abducted by Aliens and is the only one left... WHERE is everyone?!

If it is true that vw upgraded the Gti's engine(from what year?), why would they keep it quiet and not update the rest of the world that it has more power. If it really develops more kw on a stock brand new Gti.
Since when does VW list KW rating as ATW, wheel those still look like ATFW?

This has been answered.... it has to do with Marketing from what I have read and the R32

Dude, do you know about the Edition30 MKV GTi ?

He wants to know why they havent made it public...

Well, if he didnt notice the past 10 years, VW (and almost every other car manu.) themselves are a bunch of w4nkers. We can go to them and teach them a thing or two.

What is an edition 30 MKV GTi, they make keeping track of models these day so hard.

All i am saying is that if the VW TFSi GTi engine makes as much power as you guys say they are, then it would be stupid not to update the specs accordingly so that it would be a fair comparison to the other super hot hatches.
Then again it is understandable, because some motor journalist and guys from motoring guilds or whatever might think it is a facelift and badly influence other(R32) and second hand values. Which is actually good from VW side, they are 1 of the few that keep facelifts to a minimum and look after they're used car markets, unlike some other that facelift, drop prices/specs etc. and bugger up the used car values. Which is not good anyway in this market environment flooded with cheap import and other crap.

Don't get me wrong i like both VW's and Ford's ,but so far i have only driven a Focus St and there hasn't been a Gti MKV available to test drive @ the local dealer so far, they obviously have some good sales on them because as soon as they get 1 in it is sold, saw an R32 and tiguan there but it was already bought and can't be touched understandingly-waiting for new owner.

New to the thread, quickly add some comments on my '06 GTI. On a dyno run at MACE in Cape Town (vicious title that) it reached 156kw and 288nm ATW. Stock. Better than the 147kw advertised. Bloke doing the testing (they specialise in performance upgrades) said it was certainly way better than average. Buggered if I know why.

On the issue of ECU upgrades by VW to stock, I called VW now in Tokai and there are 3 'campaigns' out for my particular car (after reading out the engine number to him). One for the fuel injection sensor (might need a new one too), one for the radio (RCD-300) where it can not power down fully after ignition is switched off (and drain battery power) and the other was for general engine management (didn't get muvh info on that). They've booked me in for tomorrow. Very impressed that this bloke Craig really knew his stuff and was so accomodating.

As to chipping the car, R6.5k is a lot of money. I might try to scrape it together after the warranty is expired (yes, I know of 'invisible' claims but it's the hastle of reverting to stock and upgrading at every service that's just beyond my time and energy) but then it's the purchase of a new Forge etc DV which also adds $$ to the equation.

Had the car for 2 years and have ripped it to shreds on many occassions. Lovely to take so much care in the replacement of tyres (my Kumho SPT's are fantastic) and recently I replaced stock springs with the Eibach Pro-Kit and handling is certainly better with less slide / more grip and actually softer and more forgiving on imperfect road services. Plus a slight drop which looks good. Point is, I'm very happy with the car and - by the sounds of things - all leaving comments are too. Sweet. Gotta get my hands on an ST for some wicked amusement sometime soon too. There really is so much out there at present that 10 years ago I reckon wasn't the case! Adios!

That is very nice power for an 06 MKV Gti.
Where did you get your Eibach,Price?

What kind of fun do you want to have with an ST?

I still want to go and check out and maybe take a ride in a MKV GTi, when there is 1 available @ local dealer.

Hi BigBear, yeah the power is decent... you canget more power if you're after it but really I reckon it's got a fair amount going for itself already. It's more a case of learning how to control the car well with what it has: more technical driving than all-out brute force. Taking mountain twisties in the dead of night is a good start ;) I also am out-moding all my old habits of gearing down 2 notches when wanting a sudden spurt as the car really loses all power and torque over 5k... totally the opposite to a naturally aspirated car. Best to gear one down and keep around 3-5k RPM's... still learning new ways of getting what I want out of it! :)

The Eibach Pro-Kit was R2,550.00 all inclusive of 3 hours fitting and wheel alignment. I'm very pleased with it. Approx 10 mm drop rear (quite noticeable) and 5mm drop at front (slight). Drop at front will increase over the next many thousand km's (doesn't happen quickly) by about another 4mm: wear-in. Still wish a little lower all-round, but to go Eibach Sports-Kit is silly as you'd really hammer suspension badly over our roads... you'd also have to upgrade your shocks, which - at around R8k for Koni's etc - isn't cheap.

Why with an ST? It's in the same league. If the GTI wasn't available, this is the car I'd have bought: 2.5l 5 stroke.... fuel consumption a worry though. I'd have fun by drilling it in it's proverbial rear with a big stick, that's how :)

Merc vs ST? Lol... couldn't be more different. When you're a dad in your 40-60's, you'll understand why he wants the Merc :) Adios.

You got a point there, VW is good in that way. I think only the MK4 did they brag about the 132KW a bit (I had the 110) so i wasnt impressed LOL.

I am looking at the ST now for the my other half (lol thats what i tell myself - could be fun ) and you can pick up an 07 for around180/190K with 20k km on the clock... I was surprised. But I guess its due to there ST2 already - bad move i reckons... guys are losing cash too quick on trade ups.

Now here is something thats been bugging me for a while.... what are the two lil red lines on the speedo @ 30 & 50KM? Cant be shift points... ?anyone know... (NOW I WONT SLEEP TONIGHT AGAIN - damn lil redlines) hehe

On the St forum i know of some guys that want's to sell some good modded st's for under R200k and they either have a proper chip/ performance exhaust / both + induction, close to 200KW's ATW.
