Good entry level media box?

Did the Nvidia Shield get the latest interface? AFAIK it's still stuck on Android 11.
Oh but I didn't tell him about that?

As far as I know, no one boasts about it though?

He said said 'you know so much ... so smart .. and humble ... what can I select as a media player that'll last me for many, many years as I don't have much money?' I said 'the word is that the Apple TV is the best that money can buy and you'll be sorted for 10 years'

He saved up many months and bought it ... lived on peanut butter sandwiches ... but he did it

Maybe the two of you need to share some peanut butter sandwiches. Or something wow the catiness

It’s SO easy to work him up, it’s scary.

Once he gets the notification that someone is talking about ‘his’ brand, he’s there

*sips on whiskey*

Well yes Netflix, Disney, Prime video, Showmax, Omni, Infuse etc. will still work. How many Google Nexus Players can still play Netflix?

It does work - sans the interactive stuff which his kids enjoy & lack of AV1 for his metered connection
It's dead anyway.
Netflix is preparing to remove its final two interactive specials from the platform. Over the past few days, removal notices have appeared on Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, confirming both will be leaving the service globally on May 12th, 2025. Their departure will mark the end of Netflix’s era of interactive stories as it transitions to Cloud and mobile gaming exclusively.

Netflix has now been slowly phasing out its interactive specials, which it officially discontinued in mid-2023, with a focus shifting to mobile and cloud gaming. All but four Netflix Original interactive specials were removed in late 2024, with Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls and You vs. Wild removed in January of this year.

That left two interactive specials: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018) and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend (2020). Both of which are now due to depart.

It wasn’t 4.5 years ago.

Anyway - I’m just saying that although I told him that was the best box on the planet with all these updates, it’s a bummer that it could never do interactive shows, AV1, FaceTime, HDR10+, Liquid Glass or karaoke.

It was limping along back then already... very little content was released.

Some niche / nice to have things. Nothing essential like proper streaming apps and video players.

So the "neighbour" that did not know about Apple tv and had to save for the Apple tv, obviously does not own an iPhone.
But he is going to be upset about Facetime.
LOL another BS troll story.

Everyone knows about Apple TV?
I'm not really sure what you're talking about?
Can you quote - or are you going to slink away from a challenge like the other 3 years?
But he is going to be upset about Facetime.
So let's assume you buy something ... and the owners are telling you that you'll be covered for 10 years because Apple TVs are the best and Apple updates are awesome and better than everyone else etc

Can't you not see that not even 5 years down the line with it missing multiple features, you'd be upset?

Take off the Apple glasses though when you think like a real person. Obviously you'll be drooling everytime you see the Apple logo - but a normal person that is promised something that doesn't deliver, isnt going to be happy

I told him .... you get proper Netflix ... and he says 'but so did you with your Android'

What lie do you tell him?

Also, put yourself in a normal persons shoes

I do understand that it's difficult for you to see a regular persons view though - so I'm not really expecting you to understand.

Yes a regular person will care about interactive shows, AV1, FaceTime, HDR10+, Liquid Glass or karaoke.
You haven't taken off your glasses, obviously

But that's alot of things missing less than 5 years for 'the best media player on the market' when you were told about the decade long updates and the features and you never have to worry?

LOL watch how the drama troll suddenly put features with updates for a decade.
I know we will never see it and just more troll stories. But you have a link to these promises of a decade of features?

But you have a link to these promises of a decade of features?
Some care a huge amount abouy updates - I'm sure you do?
Just below you've gone on about 7 years and 8 years and 10 years updates?
And the amount you mention updates, it seems you really do care?
Smiggles mentions updates every 4th or 5th post because they mean a huge deal to him?

people today still use Iphone 6 that's about 8 years old or even older Iphones? Why because they last, get updates
So the iPhone 6 that was released in 2014, that is 8 years ago. Still got IOS 15 updates
So please enlighten us with how many of the 1000's of Androids get 8 years of updates and support?
The 6s is 7 years of updates.
not worry about speed or updates for the next 10 years

the main reason and i have thought about this pretty carefully because the Apple TV is in most respects a good thing BUT for me personally i have to have USB and i don't really give a rats ar5e about what year it is - i have lots of local content that i can use with everything and take to my sisters place and let them watch etc so it needs to be on drives and we all don't have great working internet so its not even shareable on Plex - so the old ways work the best ..... i want USB in the unit and if something doesn't have USB then that company won't get my business or any support from my family ..... we rather all support company's that don't want to dictate to you how you need to consume your content but instead gives you many choices of how it can be done even if a lot of those choices are legacy choices - that just makes it easy for the people that are "normal" people who really will tell you to shove your SSDs and new tech thingies that only rely on the internet up a place where the sun doesn't shine

Not compared to my Nova box. It's missing Google TV, Android TV 14, better piracy apps, any find my remote feature, reliability, user profiles, multitasking, Airplay.
