good power supply brands

Yip, Corsair.

I've had a whole heap of power supplies in my many many years of PC builds...by FAR the best and most reliable is my Corsair 750W. I'll never buy another power supply brand!
 
Ok since everyone is saying Corsair I'll list a few others:
Antec - Truepowers are always good
PCP&P - very expensive and one of the closest PSU brands to the actual box specifications
XFX - great value for money, difficult to find in this country
Enermax
Silverstone
 
Why would you recommend a Huntkey? At the 1000w+ range there's only a few acceptable brands imo - mainly the ones I listed. It's pretty tough to beat the AX 1200w though, no doubt about it.

Why is everyone so anti-coolermaster? I've got a 850W Real Power Pro - lots of connectors, very quiet and hasn't given me a days trouble for the past 5 years.

Just another vote for Corsair. I bouth the TX750 and apparently under right conditions it can pull 900w. Plus it had a lot of plugs and plenty of volts and amps.. Just do it!

Those Huntkey's are good. X7 range.

Nothing wrong with the Realpowers. It's the Extreme Powers and even the GX's which have quality issues.
The Cooler Master GX 650W is the first Cooler Master power supply we have seen in a long time, and unfortunately it did not exactly leave me wanting more. Really it left me wanting some mouthwash to get this bad taste out of my mouth.

My apologies, I must have added which ones failed. I had an Extreme Power Plus and a GX. I agree that nothing is wrong with the Realpowers. But on the more budget front the Corsairs are way better.
 
I would not recommend Coolermaster GX Series if a better alternative is availible (which there is)
they've been reviewed to create more electrical noise pullution than the ATX specification allows for once loaded past halfway of their rated output although not by much. (this 'can' damage your sensitive components), They are ok, but u might aswell just go for a corsair...

STAY AWAY from Huntkey powersupplies. They've had a history of not putting heatsinks in there PSU's where needed and have quite a few of their product lines have EXPLODED under review testing, when pulling their rated power. They can bearly supply half of what the sticker on the side says without popping.

Corsiar TX series is excellent. I'd recommend it enough to buy one myself... and I did, the TX-750

My friend u are very UN-informed when it comes to Huntkey it seems, and you must be reading some old post by someone who used a 550w huntkey power supply in the past(2007/2008) to power up a 9800GX 2 which was very stupid. Huntkey are leading Power Supply manufacturers for OEM systems of huge companies in the industry. They recently decided to make their own versions of the power supplies because of the demand from top power supply companies. Huntkey employ over 7000 people and have various devisions dealing with extreme high end enthusiast power supplies and right down to laptop power supplies.

Have you owned 1 of these X7 range before? I bet not. :)

You are misinformed my friend. Huntkey is one of the best manufacturers around at the moment. If you actually do your research, you will eat your own words. My mate tried to kill a 900w X7 using 4 x 5870's (I think, could be mistaken) and it handled it.

I haven't been introduced to the x7 series, but many of their previous series they have failed miseribly under hardware reviews, and even exploded during testing.
Point is Hunkey has a history of using underated parts, and poor design, and blatently LYING about their true output, and im sorry 1 possibly "ok" product doesn't redeem them for all their other crap. Especially when you recommending someone spend their money on it, to be placed in the heart of a rig they possibly going to spend 10k + on (and have it damanged)... which Im guessing is the case if they are even considering premium names like coolmaster ect.

If a car manufacturer build nothing but cars that the breaks failed or the wheels fell off and killed the occupants, for the last 10yrs... would you still trust buying your wife their latest model to drop you kids at school in, because your neighbors hasnt killed him "yet"?

Hunkeys have always been cheap crap, sadly they usually end up in store build systems for that vary reason.

Maybe it's just me but I tend to avoid PSUs from Chinese companies. And yes I do know my Corsair PSU was made in China.
 
Almost everything is made in China they are the leaders now in the world and soon India will take over as those are 2 super powers when it comes to manufacturing at lower costs with quality.

For Huntkey to get 80plus gold certification they have to go through a serious load balancing test which will load the power supply at various levels for over 300hours.

I know the guy Kuga is talking about. He used 3 x GTX 480 @ a gpu core clock speed of 1180mhz. Cpu was at 5.3ghz. The power supply was drawing over 1160watts at the wall socket
 
if you buy a Corsair PSU you usually get 10 - 20% more power...they are very modest with their ratings

"What are good power supply's to buy that will last for a long period of time"
Your top recomendation is the huntkey?

Edit: I educated myself with some reading on the Hunkey X7 900W from on various sites,
seems unanimous that people agree they have a solid product with that line, so I'll give them some credit. the X7's seem to be pretty good.
Although I still wouldnt trust them for myself over manufactures with a less disapointing history. For their high-end (pricey'est) series to get the same rave reviews as many other manufacturers midrange psu's isn't a huge achievement in my eyes. But then again you can just call me a cynical prick. The price is nice for a modular PSU though, very nice infact.

The one year warrentee is lol though
