Goodbye Sentech

Just as a Epilogue, I'd finally got the modem dropped off back at Sentech, a few weeks back - and got a call last week from an Orc, saying
'Um, we just checking - I know you have sent through a cancellation fax, but have you returned the modem yet? Please let us know, coz we're updating the database."
Naturally I didnt bother calling them.

Ha ha ha... i got a similiar call... something like

hi this is [insert orc name here], we just calling about your speed ticket... blah blah blah...

Yeah I dont use Sentech anymore....

Oh! why?

Um... I cancelled...

Oh! Have you returned your modem?

Er... I think so...

Well we would need to confirm you HAVE cancelled...

uh huh...

Who did you cancell with?

um... Sentech?

We have no record of it?

Is that my problem?

Um...

Well if you have a problem could you send me a registered legal letter (mental note taken from LGM's groovy post)...

Um... er... hrmmm. okay... um... thanks? Bye.

Yeah whatever... iBurst rules!

I'd like to thank you guys for cancelling. Things have been getting so much faster lately. :)

Debit orders

NB !!! - when you cancel, phone each day for a week AFTER your cancellation has been approved to make sure that it's gone through - IOW, wait to hear whether your cancellation has been accepted, then phone a few times to double/triple/quadruple check.

Remember that a debit order is under the control of the payee, i.e. SenTech in this case. They usually resubmit their debit request 3 or 4 times on a stopped debit order. Therefore you must make abso-f*cking-lutely sure that your bank refuses each and every debit request from SenTech. I would send a letter/fax to the bank ordering them to stop all payments to SenTech, to make it legally binding on the bank and give you some recourse to remedy should they 'accidentally' allow the debit request.

Do the same in your letter to SenTech, i.e. specifically order them to stop deducting money from your account. They will probably cry "Foul!" and try to intimidate you by threatening legal action, but just persevere and tell them (politely) to **** off.

You must also monitor your account closely for the next month, because SenTech might try the debit order AGAIN at the end of the next month.

just checked and my contract is cancelled... finsihed and done with. YAY!. Thanks for the heads up!

two words, Clinton Smith. He gets things done first time RIGHT. He even (after much discussion between me and him) offered his free time after hours to come pick up the modem at my house when it was convinient for ME. As I said to him, either they can arrange someone pick it up from me when I'm at home after work (which is around 7pm) or they can get someone to come pick it up in the morning before I leave, which is 6am. And that no way in HELL am I taking off work just to drive through to fourways to return something which is to the benefit of THEM

I was nice and gave them my network cable that cost me R150 and not the ripoff price they ask for it now with the modem

Well, what can say I am back on the net after ± 3 months of absence and this time via a standard Telkom line. I basically used the draft which somebody compiled here with some minor alterations and mailed it to them. The next day I was to my disbelief disconnected and unable to reconnect. No response from them, no attempt to threaten me and no more Sentech…I was even preparing myself for a battle, but up to now…. nothing..

ha ha ha... I emailed them and fought with an idiot called Mr Theron... Jack Theron... what a numskull. I also did what you did... let me gues LoneGunMan's how to cancell from sentech?

Yeah but also *poof* and you are now canclled.

was the greatest day of my life... (not counting that time with that french girl... YUM)

I was about to sign up for Sentech but yet again something said wait there might be something new .This new Broadband company IBURST attracted my Attention since there was no Cap untill end of March, 1st of April the Cap Kicked in, When I arrived back from long rested Vaction I come back and I can't download or anything... I also heard some ppl have sentech modems just lying around in the house and they not using it.

my bank FNB charges something like R30bux or so (if I remember correctly), to block Sentech (or whoever) for a 3 month period re debit order. So that if sentech takes money during that period, it can be reversed without any fuss.
Apparently this '3 month period where the bank watches your account and specific company debit orders, and you can get them to easily reverse any debit order' is a standard thing.
So I've forked out happily for a three month period, and after that, I'll probably take another 3 month period, just to ensure that I have total peace of mind for a looong time to come, and prevent any stupidity on sentechs part. Its obsessive, but its one way of getting a good nights sleep and having a proper recourse for action, should anyone at sentech get a bright idea..
One cant stop sentech from changing a number and putting it through again, but if you're legally covered with your bank that for this period, all debit orders to company X are stopped, it streamlines the process of getting it reversed.
Naturally, depending on how iburst go, I might have to do the same to them :)

LGM phone sentech helpdesk one last time to find out if your account has been cancelled... mine has... although my sentech email still works... figures!

That is one of the things I told Clinton, is that if Sentech blacklists me I'd sue them for defemation of character. Plus, it will literally take years to get off my record, so I'd have to sue for compensation for the pain and suffering as well.

They respond pretty well to threats of legal action, especially when "fraud" and "police" are worked into the same sentance.

Fortunately, the bank I used (icanonline) closed when I decided to cancel sentech, by which time I closed my accounts totally, so even if they tried to take money that doesn't belong to them (like they did and still doing from what i've heard) they would try and debit a ghost account.

To date, except for the miscommunication for Feb's billing, iburst has been on par.

:D You’ve got to love this place.

Noone: I have edited your post slightly, but only because the term used will be seen as defamatory by many members/visitors. I certainly respect your views on openness and freedom of speech (and even the disclaimer :D), but can we possibly agree on this one?

Back to square one ...........

After playing with MyDraadtrek and iBust .... I am back to Telscum.... my life sucks, but at least it seems to be working.

The technician did a grand job of glueing all the wires to the wall .... from wireless to wired up.

After what iBust did this week I have lost faith

Noone - I hate to tell people "I told you so"

BUT

I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!
