Google Chrome speeds to 4.0

But this thread is about the fact that Chrome has reached version 4 dev status in one year, not about a bunch of FF fanboois crying about their add-ons.

Look, I use Firefox 3.5.2 on Ubuntu 9.04 and quite happy with it, but sometimes I want to pull my hair out about Slowfox. Enough said.

You can keep your add-ons and I'm waiting for Chrome's release on Ubuntu 9.10 .

But why the major version jumps? Don't get me wrong, Chrome is an awesome browser, I might even start using it in the very near future. But it feels a bit like google is trying to play version number catchup with FF, IE, Opera etc...
 
With 3 they tweaked the rendering engine + introduced themes & with 4 they are introducing add-ons + more tweaks.

Guess they can give it any version number they feel like?
 
Version 4 has been out in the developer channel for ages. Supports themes (not sure if this was 3 or 4)

The version numbers are also psychological IMO

O and it is great for local sites on a 4meg line :) Instant loading, its amazing

I'm no fanboy and we're hardly crying. Don't be so biased. It's unattractive ;)

Still like my opera. Fast application/fast browsing, speed dial, tab previews, tons of addons & widgets(which just needs to be better implemented in placing)

Actually i must try firefox again some time, cause i remember it as a slow application(not slow on browsing)

it has to be the only thing I do not like about FF ... and its not just my home PC but my work laptop too?!

any ideas on how to speed up the start up of FF?
 
I run IE8+IE7pro addon on my left monitor & FAILFOX on my right monitor

IE8 > Failfox, just because if a page crash, it only closes the tab, in FAILFOX it restarts the whole browser.

IE8 > SAFARI = CHROME > OPERA > FAILFOX
 
I switched from FF to Chrome late last year, and love the speed and how unobtrusive it is. Chrome also optimises screen space better than any of the other browsers. I tried FF 3.5 when it launched, but frankly I was disappointed.

I do miss the add-ons from FF, especially syncing bookmarks between home & work, but Chrome will be introducing that soon.

If you haven't tried Chrome yet, give it a go - you'll be surprised how great a browser can be.

Will move to Chrome when the extensions are up to scratch.

Something else: Version 4 within a year definitely means fast development, but it can likewise be interpreted as going forward with "not-yet-complete" versions - won't call them beta though
 
They can bump up version numbers all they like, they will never beat the years of experience Opera gained and they only went to V10 after 13 years.

Oh, did I mention that Opera is the best browser in the universe ?
