I'm astonished to see the amount of Apple hatred... Perhaps we need a thread on "How Apple have wronged you personally" to get all these bottled up feelings out in the open :)

You normally hear how apple users are fanboys but the opposite is true of this forum.

I am not seeing fanboizm here at all. This is a bunch of people sick of the school yard bully, and now gathering around to watch him get a smack!
Those in support of the bully are at the edges with their heads buried in the sand :)

I feel everyone must use the OS and or brand they want. That is their choice...but no one likes a bully...and if this goes Google's way then Apple got exactly what they deserve and I wont shed a single tear. *shrug*

If Apple goes down because of this, I will have a serious difficult time explaining to my wife why she won't be getting another iDevice ... Any help now would be appreciated, failing which I will open a thread at the right time

The reason they have lack of users is because they did not keep up with the development of technology. Who wants Symbian if it is dying? They were their own worst enemy. They caused the loss of their users. iOS took it with their innovation and Android is slowly but surely doing the same from them and iOS. If you want to keep a user/client, then you better make it worth their while to stay on.

Android did not let patents stop them from evolving and development. And come to think of it, the only reason why Nokia isn't being sued by Apple is because they are not a real threat now.

EDIT: I am not an Apple fanboy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget Symbian. Think about Boot2Gecko. Everybody is developing for iOS or Android. If iOS disappears then resources are freed up to focus on building apps and attracting users to other OS's.

And you said it yourself, Apple is only suing those that are threats. Smaller companies or future developers might be scared of that. Just now the shape of screen rendering is too close to Apple and they get sued... or one of their icons is the same colour as one of the Apple ones... or they decide they only want to make use of one button... or who knows what.

These patent wars are doing just as much damage to future development and competition.

Apple should have stayed out of court in the first place. I've said it many times on here. They could have done this in better more creative ways and gained market sympathy ... but instead they went for the shotgun and started shooting. Samsung had to duck and dive all over the place. Apple reckoned it had the biggest gun and started acting like bullies. I am glad Google+Motorola is taking them on. Others should join in. Both Samsung and Motorola offered Apple deals to use their patents but Apple wanted to set the price. WTF? When they didn't get it at the price they wanted to pay they just stole the patents. Me have biggest gun ... me take what me wants ... okay!

I cannot believe how my attitude towards Apple changed since they started their stupid litigation campaign against Samsung. Apple is now like George W Bush showing the world who's the boss.

I'm hoping that at some point the cost of litigation will exceed the benefits of these silly lawsuits. But I wouldn't wish for either iPhone or Droid phone to go under - this might have a detrimental effect on the pace of innovation we're currently seeing in new releases.

They refused to replace my iPhone 3GS when I started getting 'No Service' issues after upgrading the firmware and I was 2 weeks out of warranty. Note I did nothing wrong, used their software (iTunes) to upgrade their 'walled garden' firmware and when something went wrong they refused to help as I was 2 weeks out of warranty. That's when I refused to support them anymore and moved myself and the kids (3 phones) to Android.

You do know every other phone manufacturer, hell any electronics manufacturer will do nothing about anything outside warranty, weather its 1 day or 2 weeks. They warranty exist as a fixed timeline, not an guideline.

The actual point I was trying to make was that a software upgrade broke my phone. Apple-suppllied software & Apple-supplied firmware but I end up with a non-working phone .. so much for Apple's much publicised walled garden approach and superiour whatever hey. It wasn't just me, google 'No Service' error to see how many people had/have the same problem. Further, Apple (Core?) couldn't even re-load the software once on my phone when I handed it in, while I was doing it a couple of times a week by that stage (the phone would say no-service, then go to the 'sync with itunes' screen and the only way to get it working again was to restore from backup).

To be completely fair to Apple I would boycott the schit out of any other company that I have a similar bad experience with, but that's when I realised I was dealing with a crap/hypocritical company and moved to Android. A decision I am completely happy with btw.

Had to happen. Saw something about this on the weekend, but it seems it just got real.

That article gave me a weird tingling sensation in my pants... Go GOOGLE!!!

It is not Apple as a company that I don't like, it is the Apple users that grind my gears with their misplaced sense of superiority.

Irony would be if this happens:

Apple stops Samsung Phones
Google stops Apple Phones
..and we are left buying Blackberries and Nokias .

The thought alone is enough to induce mild anxiety... I'll take Samsung/Android any day, dear god just not Blackberry or Nokia.

From an Apple user.

You obviously don't hang around these part often. The over-whelming sentiment is anti-Apple, Google is holy and Android rulz FTW.
