I've established that Deezer is not supported on Google Home here. Anyone know if Spotify will work? If so, can I use the free version or will I need to sign up for Premium or whatever they call it?

Yes, I've had it on for a while, works great with some Sonoff switches, my LIT box and a bridge with a bunch of PIR sensors.

I don't have a default music provider set in the app, I literally did no setup to get it to work.

The only reason I knew it was my Spotify is it read out the playlist name.

I'm baffled. I restarted my phone and Spotify is now listed under Music/Your Services in the Google Home app, along with TuneIn Radio which I've had for some time, and which works fine when controlled by voice command to the Mini. If I try to control Spotify, Google assistant tells me I need to link my Spotify account via the Google Home app, but the option to do this is nowhere to be found......

On Android under no default is another thing saying I can use any music app on my phone.

They were designed to give Google more data, not serve you. User experience is not a priority for Google.

It looks that way. I got onto chat with Google support last night, it's an exercise in futility.

If spotify is installed on your phone should be as simple as going to home app - account(bottom right button) - setup/add - under manage services heading, it should be in music and audio, just check radio O
or just ask it to add spotify /shrug
