Everything of Google's is always beta! GMail is still beta! I'm surprised the search engine still isn't beta. Its Google's way of saying that because there are bugs and problems its not an issues because "its still beta".

Umm..
Q: How can you delay milk turning sour?
A: Keep it in the cow.

:o

hrm... i wonder. I will use it if only just to have my google apps running perfectly in one place even.. but there are drawbacks, like google ads will definately be showing ;-) I wonder if they will block third party types and replace it with their own from within the browser config.. is that even legal?

IMHO that puts it in the niche market of nice to have but bloody difficult to get to work. I don't want to have to sit smashing my head against the wall because it won't do what I want using standard methods!

I think it's the way the web is moving and everyone else will be playing catchup... just my 5c worth...
Stability is supposedly a key aspect as is open source - they also borrowed alot from Mozilla so expect something nice...

We will find out when we have to programme for the browser. That being said, FF also has its peculiarities due to it not being W3C compliant.

is it gonna be linux compatible? i guess if it uses webkit there's no reason it shouldn't be.

I read the comic, I think their ideas and stuff look really good. I'm definitely downloading this the moment it's released.

Did they not learn from Netscape. Sandboxing comes with a very high performance penalty. Nothing new here. This will tank.

  1. Computers are a whole lot more powerful than they were in the netscape days
  2. Google is not netscape.

What browser is w3c compliant? If it's using the webkit rendering engine it's going to be as compliant as anything (yes, even Opera). AFAIK, konqueror and safari (both using webkit) are the only two browsers to have passed Acid 2*.

Windows first, then mac and linux. Hope there's not too much of a delay until we get to the important OSs. :)

*I know that it is not a measure of standards compliance.

Well I hope that they don't design the software just for higher end PCs. One of the main reasons Google became so popular, was because of its basic start screen. No bulky downloads to get to a simple search engine. Now their Gmail version 2 web application takes up huge resources on my old P4 if I only scroll, unacceptable :( Yes I know you can revert back to version 1, but this is the point, they should keep it light weight like their google startup screen, simple and fast even for over a modem ;)

But i love firefox. Chrome is going to have to offer something great for me to make the move across to chrome.

90 minutes and counting... I can't wait to see what they've done for myself.

Of course, as a web developer it could well be just another browser to test against.

I'll wait & see. I'm happy with FF atm, so they will have to come up with something good to get me excited about their new browser/World domination plan.

Can I haz cloud computing.:D So much for tactical surprise.
