Well I'll guess we will have to see how this would integrate into Babel, because that is happening

Well, time to find another IM service or go back to good old SMS... I refuse to use ANY Google service (yes, even search). I will have deleted my account before the ink is dry on the contract...

I do however hope this is a bad & late April fools joke!!!

Hmm, I'm surprised it took this long for some giant to grab WhatsApp. With their userbase, I would've thought that SOMEBODY would've been at their door with a truck full of gold ages ago.

From a personal point of view, I'm not looking forward to this, though. Not because I hate Google or ads or whatever, but the point is that my primary device is a Windows Phone and Google does NOT like Windows Phone. Several of the Google services have horrible, massively sub-par experiences on Windows Phone even though Windows Phone has a browser that's essentially, bar a bit or two, desktop Internet Explorer, Google even went so far as to block Windows Phone from maps, and Google refuses to create native Windows Phone apps for pretty much anything. I can't help but think that WhatsApp on Windows Phone would suffer for a Google purchase. I'm sure the Android experience would become amazing, but...

Just value my privacy my Google-loving friend. But to each his own. If avoiding Google makes me paranoid (won't mention the other one as I find your comment tasteless), then so be it...

Really? Are those the only reasons you could think of why people would be paranoid? Each to his own, I guess it's your point of view...

Don't say anything bad about Google. ghoti will bury you in an avalanche of his wrath.

Google is the hippest linux'ish company around, and ghoti has one massive raging hardon for anything linux.

You know what Google product has the most annoying advertising EVER? It's by far the most intrusive of all services i use, including Facebook. It's called Youtube. It starts with those "5 seconds before you can skip this ad" crap (sometimes you can't even skip) and then goes on to these pop-ups in the middle of the video, obscuring your view. This has become worse and worse, so much so that i'm constantly finding myself thinking of using a different service entirely.

So no one can fool me that Google is "nice" and do not bombard you with ads, they definitely are not immune to foist crap on you .
