Google Maps available again on Apple app store

Installed the app this morning. Navigated to work - quite nice. Appreciates that it gives both the old and the new names for some streets in Pta, and actually pronounces a lot of the street names correctly. Navigation is minimalist, but quick and re-routing works quite well. Warns you before that some of the streets you are navigating has heavy traffic. Like the Android version it switches to streetview when you get close to your destination.

Vector graphics are smooth, but whether they are smoother than Android's I can't say.

Will def. continue using it rather than the Apple maps.

Great news.

Apple users have been nett gainers after losing it for a few months.

Google werent keen on adding turn by turn etc w/o adding lots of ads etc

Apple releasing a not ready Maps with turn by turn forced Google to release a better App

So now we have a better Google Maps then we had before AND
An alternative in Apple Maps (which navigation wise has worked very well for me)

I wonder - If Apple hadnt released their own Maps would we have Google Maps like this?

Finally I can Ditch Apple Maps!!!!! Wonder how many people will use Apple Maps after this???

You cant ditch it 100% because it will be the default Maps App so other Apps will call it

I will still use it and so will others.
I find their Navigation very good and their turn by turn integration with Siri excellent.
What I miss is Streetview and Google POIs are better

I will most likely use them interchangeably depending on need.
Of course I havent evaluated Googles integration with Siri

Actually prefer Apple maps. More intuitive and I feel better designed. The satellite imagery in Google is much better and I prefer how the roads are displayed when zoomed out but I think Apple might be a touch faster, the vector mapping is a cool feature and I prefer how the street names and suburb names are always facing the right way up. It needs work but it will get there. Googles POI search is infinitely better for eg. I wonder if we won't see an Apple Yahoo collaboration in the near future for maps. Microsoft has Nokia+ Bing, Google ties it into its search engine so for Apple it might make sense.
