Google Nexus 4

Pooky- how much did you pay for your Nexus 4, and did you buy it using the Posbox Courier method?

My aunt bought it and sent it. Paid $349 for the phone (around R3300 at the time) plus $44 USD for postage (around R350 or so).

So that's around R3650

BUT my Aunt declared the value as $400 USD on the shipping, so customs nailed me for R635.

R4285 plus minus. That's for the 16gig version.

So I could have just bought it here somewhere for around the same price if not cheaper..... :(

Still not a bad price at all... But with the horrible exchange rate, I will be nailed if I buy it now :(

Okay tried out PAC, too much choice, and I don't like PIE Control much, nor the tablet UI.

Then tried CyanogenMod, but there's a bug that when I press a vibrate button, the speaker makes a pop noise.

Downloading AOKP now....

running cm10.1 rc4 for a few days with franco kernel milestone 2 and working well so far
for those running cm10.1
is the quiet times working for you? doesnt seem to work for me?
and am/pm setting for status bar clock? doesnt seem to work for me on any setting.?

Err, I think i hear something as well but only when the phone is on silent, selecting the Home or Apps button produces like a muffled pop sound....not sure if it's the same thing and it only happens once or twice and then phone is totally silent.

On stock btw

SO I'M NOT GOING CRAZY! Someone else hears it too! :D
I thought my phone was defective at first!
I dont hear it? Mine is quiet.
Are 'touch sounds' enabled?

Yeah that's it. Check if 'touch sounds' are enabled in settings.

I think what happens is it still plays the sound even when in silent mode but it's just muted; it's a small crackle pop sound and you can hear that the speaker is turned on for a second or so.

It must be some sort of bug in 4.2.2, I wonder if there is a place we can report it.

I finally got my Ringke Fusion case for my nexus 4. Shipping was around 3 weeks from USA (ebay). Everything cost around R230 which is not that much ! I really like the case, it don't add that much bulk to the phone and now i wont have any problems with cracked glass :)

great stuff
let us know if the back gets scratched easily or not?

I've finally come to the conclusion that my N4 cell reception is really kuk in comparrison to my Samsung phones I have used. Also the picture quality from the cam is always blueish in colour (unless I switch to HDR)....

Im still using the the CyanogenMod 10.1 - 20130606 nightly with its 3.4.0 Kernel. Different ROM's make no difference. We have 3 N4's in my family, 2 rooted (one being mine) and 1 stock. The stock one has the same issues....

My N4 Pros & Cons:

Pros
Fast & buttery smooth

Cons
Buttons too flush - difficult to feel for front / back or upright / upside down....
Slippery as hell
Worst reception of any phone I have used
Limited internal memory capacity (16gig - not all usable due to system requirements)

But I'm stuck with it for another 10 months... Not liking it much anymore :( Best phone to date I have ever had was my Galaxy Note 1.

Which network are you on?

you are correct when it comes to reception - quality is not good at all.
im on mtn
about the buttons - my brothers n4's buttons are much more easier to press then mine l.which are a bit too flush( like yours). think it might be a quality issue when they made the phone

And changing to stock Android? I've had mine for a few months now and I love it (compared to Galaxy nexus), reception is way better (voice sounds clearer), camera takes good clear pictures and it's snappy. I used my old Galaxy Nexus the other day and I must say that there really is speed difference.

Also on Vodacom btw

I'm on MTN, have no reception issues. I agree about the slippery thing though, it feels pretty fragile. I have it in a Mercury TPU case which is really good.
