Google Nexus 5

Cost wise? Probably R1k more buying it from Amazon, but given the workarounds that I would have had to employ to buy it from Google, perhaps the overall cost will be a lot closer.

Note that not everyone here is experiencing the problem that I had- namely a credit card that Google won't accept. So try your luck with them, first.
I have actually, mine is with postbox courier as from this morning. And I used my normal FNB debit card with no issues at all.

Give it two days max and it will be here. They are really that quick

Jeepers the 4.4.2 update has sped up the N5 camera something silly. All worries about that are gone!

Maybe its just me but it feels like the volume got higher after installing 4.2.2 OTA.

I saw speaker volume adjustments listed on at least one of the pieces I was reading yesterday about 4.2.2, so it's not just you.

Received my Nexus 5 yesterday, D821 32Gb Black model from Digitalwolf. Not the best price I admit, I'm sure I could have gotten it a bit cheaper but unfortunately I just struggled to get it from a credible source. I have also received very good and friendly service from them and they also extend their support for any warranty related issues on my behalf, so all is good.

Very happy with it, still getting used to everything. Not the best specs and built quality compared to an S4 and an Iphone, but a very good phone for it's price and something I can live with. I think the only real bad thing for me is the feel of its power and volume buttons, but that won't bother me once my Spigen Slim Armor cases arrive. While I have played with a number of Droids, this is my first Android phone I have for myself and for me pure Android is a far better user experience than any skinned Android. Hoping for many more droids to come in the future :D

I just haven't received any OTA 4.22 update yet?

One's are taking their sweet time. I still don't even have 4.4.1

wut? That phone is on par spec-wise to the S4. The obvious exception is the camera. It has a faster processor than the S4, same amount of RAM and KitKat is off the charts amazing!

Agreed. Also the first phone to accurately represent colors in the sRGB space (Samsung's phones are waaaaaaay off) http://anandtech.com/show/7517/google-nexus-5-review/5

In other words - it is the most accurate display in terms of colours on the market. :)

I would also say the build quality is much nicer (less plasticky) than Samsung's.

Agreed, and keep in mind that I own a S4 as well. The display on the Nexus 5 is simply stunning. I really love that phone.

Now that you mentioned it, me neither! How is it that we haven’ received it yet? How does the update roll out work? (Is there a slight delay with EU models, are some regions getting it sooner, etc.)? I’m on Vodacom, am I even going to get it?

For me the exception is the camera, speakers and then the power & volume buttons. It’s good, but not great. But as far as the screen and performance goes, that is great indeed ;)

The updates roll out in a staggered approach:

Rollouts are conducted in phases. Typically they start at 1% of devices for around 24 - 48 hours; we watch the return rates and resulting device checkins and error reports (if any), and make sure nothing looks wrong before sending it to more. Then typically it goes to 25%, 50%, 100% over the course of a week or two.

Speaker, I can agree on.
Camera, not so much, especially after the 4.2.2 update and the feedback that has been provided from it.
The buttons- I guess that you are still used to plastic ones, not the ceramic buttons of the device. Is it the tactile feel of the buttons, or their operation?

I read somewhere that Google stopped the rollout of 4.4.1 and went to 4.4.2 directly - with the staggered approach starting from the beginning.
